Descending with confidence

My rig is a 2003 4 runner . I have a 2.5” lift on 33s . I recently had the opportunity to drive Blackbear Pass . It was one of the most spectacular of views let me tell you . My reason for this post is to get your collective wealth of knowledge. While descending in a couple of spots. I found my self on two wheels. Just a little disconcerting when there is a 1000 ft drop just outside your window and you know a mistake could be fatal. I was wondering if anyone has any first hand experience with sway bar disconnects for our rigs? I can’t help but think even a little bit more front end articulation might have kept me a little more grounded in this situation.

picking the right line is very important. Good spotter is priceless in those cases.
That said, its just a problem with IFS. Lack of suspension travel. Still you can max out any suspension. Sway bar disconnects can help with some suspensions, but not much with IFS. It will help with the ease of suspension travel, but not the amount, especially with IFS. Would be different with some live axles.

Did the same trail in my 2001 last summer. Quite a few sketchy spots. Spent a few descents on 3 wheels... but never got to the 2 wheels situation luckily!

Pretty sure that was my first and last time hitting Black Bear Pass in the 4Runner. Need more flex!! Lol

I broke my rear sway bar mount bolts the first week I got the truck, so I havent had the rear on pretty much ever. I have done about 1000 miles with the front disconnected (about 60-80 miles offroad). I can't speak to the maximum flex of the front, but it is tremendous softer and more articulate going over uneven terrain.

Also, just to be clear, by 2 wheels you mean, for example, the left front and right rear in the air?
