Desert Dawg build...what a switch!

When you converted your portable 400P to an OBA and added another, did you use an equalization tank for both compressors?

I have a tank but haven't mounted it, yet. Plan to put it inside the area behind the rear wheels, or a larger tank in the spare location when I get a rear bumper with tire carrier. For now, the hoses act as the air tank. I have a quick connect on the front bumper, in the engine bay, and under the rear bumper.

To convert the 400P, I removed the switch, took off the base plate, and replaced the carry handle with a long stainless leader hose and check valve (to prevent it from starting under pressure). Both leader hoses are run into a manifold with a pressure switch, then a leader hose to another manifold with safety valve and into the airlines.

There you go [MENTION=50014]Desert[/MENTION] Dog! Real life experiences cannot be beaten. I've always just been more comfortable using one with more duty cycle, but sounds like the 400P would work fine for what you want!

Well that's why I take your input, as well as [MENTION=68685]Ducmonsta[/MENTION], [MENTION=78273]Jeremy556[/MENTION], and so many others with real world experience so seriously. I have done my fair share of modding and off-roading with various kinds of vehicles, but I never stop learning from folks like you and others about what works (or doesn't) or maybe just a better way of doing something and especially since I am new to the 4Runner scene. Anyway, I appreciate all the input and thanks again!

One other thought, the duty cycle is rated at 100psi, which unless you are filling tractor trailer tires or have a HUGE tank, it will mostly be operating in the 0-40 psi range, which is easier on the compressor.

Ok, so my work productivity really slowed to a halt today. I registered here yesterday and found your thread today.

First, thanks for the continued updates. It was great to read. I think I am settled on the silver. Looks super sharp with the black trim.

Secondly, what do you think you have into it with the accessories? I don't have a ton of interest in the off-roading aspect of it all but I do love the off-road aesthetics of yours.

I'm the kind of guy who has no idea how any of that stuff goes on nor do I want to try it, haha. I'd love to drop my rig at the shop and have it look like yours after a few days.

The new Marcus 4 looks amazing and love the new features with improved video/recording capability.

Having the optional GPS Tracking/LDWS (Lane Departure Warning System)/FCWS (Forward Collision Warning System)/Current Speed & GPS Location Overlay features is amazing too but need the optional mouse receiver. The attachment does seem a bit cumbersome with an additional wire extending externally from the camera and then needing a place to securely mount the GPS receiver. But I am sure I'll figure something out.

If you have been following my thread, you probably know that I set out to build my new 4Runner to meet my daily driver needs with occasional off-road use. I wanted something that would work for my family and business associates while providing me the means to enjoy weekend fishing/camping trips and have some fun with mild to moderately difficult off-road excursions. I also wanted something that was aesthetically pleasing and engaging but definitely functional. By no means was I trying to build an extreme off-roader although I have to admit seeing other builds on this forum continually causes additional strain not to do so…lol.

I still have some additional work to do and so not completely built out and/or I may even change out some things after I get some real use under my belt, but for the most part I have been very happy with my build thus far. I also am very appreciative of all the folks that took the time to read my build thread and provide me some feedback. I promise to have some real off-road excursions soon to test out my build and provide some additional feedback and pictures.

FINALLY…got my lights all hooked up. The curved 40-inch LEDs work and look great. I couldn’t get the Air on Board custom switches I wanted so just hooked up the lights with the basic switch that came with the light harness.






I upgraded the 40-AMP relay with one from KC Lights;



I spent a lot of time trying to get as clean of an install as I could running the wiring from the roof rack down into the engine compartment. A big “thank you” again to [MENTION=78273]Jeremy556[/MENTION] for the idea and help on running the ground and power wires separately under each side of the windshield weather stripping; turned out great! I also used quick disconnects at the roof and in the engine bay for both runs; if I ever need to replace the windshield, all I do is disconnect and replace with new strings in the weather stripping.





And of course wire loomed along the roof rack front rail and tucked in behind the fairing with zip ties:





I need to take some shots of the entire LED setup lighting up the night, but here’s a quick shot at dusk:

Also, do you think you could fit two wires on each side behind the weather stripping? I will be running power for my rear lights as well.

Thanks harkco! I used 14 Ga wiring; I tried fitting both wires down one side but way too thick for the weather stripping to lay flat. I am going to run rear lights eventually as well, but I think that is going to take some extra thought running through the rear hatch and down into the headliner or floor.
