Desert Dawg build...what a switch!

Damn what's her name

"Bertha"

...cause she's a bit wide...lol.

Tundra is looking good! How do you like those Coopers so far? To me, they almost look like BFG KM2's.

Thanks Ron. So far, I really like them. They are louder than the Cooper ST MAXX on my 4Runner, but still quiter than the Nittos. They do look like the BFG KM2s some but with a lot more sipping; they have better ratings than the ST MAXX for almost all driving conditions but obviously will wear a lot faster too.

Looks good. I followed your build on Tunrdasolutions.com.

The dealership I bought my 4Runner from has a TRD Pro Tundra in stock, but I'm not a fan of a 46k truck without leather and a sunroof.

Thanks! Yeah, I seriously considered the PRO too but I really didn't want an orange, black, or white truck unless it had some more comfort features...lol. Seriously though, if going off-road was the main priority for me this time around, I would have opted for the PRO.

How do you like the tundra compared to your fx4?

Both have their pros and cons. My FX4 definitely had the better suspension with my aftermarket Fox/Icon setup over the Toytec BOSS system, but the Fox shocks also squeaked a lot and required more attention than the Toytec system. The EcoBoost is a real performer and it had a cool sounding Full Race exhaust on it (as cool as spooling turbos on a 6 cylinder can get), but the Tundra is just so much better sounding with the 5.7L V8 and TRD dual exhaust. The 5.7L is also more responsive from a dead stop (no turbo lag as with the EcoBoost) but have not taken it up the mountain roads yet (where the EcoBoost never runs out of air). The Ford interior was a tad more comfy and had a lot more in-cab storage but the Tundra interior looks a lot better (in 1794 guise anyway) and is no slouch in comfort either. Both have the same amenities (cooled/heated seats, voice control navigation and bluetooth, etc.). Finally, I just love the fact that you don't see too many Tundras as you do F150s or Silverados. I also liked my FX4 build look but I was going more for the off-road theme while my Tundra is going more for the urban/sport hauler theme which I am really liking too

Loving the new truck build and your tasteful mods. I also bought a new truck but went Silverado 2500HD with the Duramax. Will pull double duty as my wife's ride and tow vehicle as we are planning to pick up an airstream this coming year and our daughter is getting into horses... I got the same tonnou cover for ours too! Congrats on the rig! We almost went that way but I just love the 6.6...

I'm looking at a '15 3.5 EB. If the dealer can get it for the right price. If not I'm probably goin for a crewmax sr5. My brother just traded in his '08 tundra for a 2.7 EB. and it drives amazingly, I just have a hard time straying from Toyota.

Thanks Ben! Yeah, there are definitely a lot of great choices right now! I checked out the Duramax too (but in GMC Denali guise); loved it but have no need anymore for heavy towing, so that also ruled out the F250 Platinum that I liked too. I just didn't feel like going back to the F150 after having so many of those, and there was a strong appeal for staying with Toyota and trying something totally new since I have had plenty of Chevys, Fords, Rams, and Jeeps in the past.

Congrats and good luck on your new rig!

I hear you...the EcoBoosts are amazing engines. I had the first year run with the 2011 EcoBoost; it never gave me any issues like some you hear about. But then I had the 2013 EcoBoost with some mods and it was a screamer especially in the high NM and CO elevations with the forced induction.

Long term durability is still a question especially on the smaller, newer 2.7EB but you can't deny its performance. It was a hard decision for me because I really like the 3.5L EB and of course have had a lot of Fords, but the Tundra's relative simplicity and large V8 grunt and growl really tugged at me and I wanted a new challenge.

Dang you Desert Dawg...I'm not liking you much right now! LOL :dancin:

That's a pretty sweet set up (so far). Keep posting pics as updates occur. :)

To my friends here on T4R.ORG, I thought I would show my progress so far on my new 2015 Tundra 1794 Edition CrewMax 4x4. As you recall, I wanted to get back to a full sized truck that would suite my needs as a daily driver for work and family but still allow me to get out on the weekends and perhaps the occasional trail. So I set this up to haul my bikes and camping gear for the weekends while being my urban hauler as well.

Stock truck right off the lot:

1794 Edition interior (stock photo):

My first mod was to dechrome the truck and add the TRD PRO grille with custom paint to match. I then went with the Toytec BOSS suspension set at 3.25-inches up front and Coachbuilder rear shackles combined with TIS 535B 20x9 wheels and the new Cooper STT PRO tires (LT295/60R20). I also added a Linex spray-on bedliner, Bed Rug bed mat, Truck Covers USA retractable tonneau cover, Yakima rack and mount system, n-Fab bumper light bar mount with Rigid 30-inch dual row light bar, and some other tidbits.

My previous 4Runner build was really successful as a daily driver and great weekend trailer, but the Tundra is suiting my needs for more room and hauling convenience. I am not done but hope you like my progress so far:

Loving your builds! Got a question on your wheel offset for the 4Runner. In post one in your mods list you state -6 offset. It in post eight, which is about the actual wheels you state -12 offset...which was it? I love the stance of that thing!

Really like the rear pre-runner light bar but not for 10-13s wonder if there's much difference ?

Yeah, they list different models for other types of light bars so they must connect to the frame differently.

Thanks Zand! The offset is -12MM; not sure why I have -6MM in there so will change. Sorry about that!

No, not this time. I was hoping they might offer something but they will take it down if I don't want my pic there any more.
