Did 2nd gen ever came with factory e-locker?

Hello.

Did the 2nd gen ever came with a factory e-locker option, just like the 3rd gen did? I've run some searches but couldn't figure out when people were saing "retrofit" if they were retrofiting a 2nd gen stuff into a standard axle housing or if they were retrofiting 3rd gen stuff into 2nd gen...

Anyone knows?

Gustavo.

I'm 98% sure the answer is no. I think 3rd gens got them first. 80 Series Land Cruisers, however, got them in '92 or '93.

you take any toyota elocker from 3rd, 4th, 5th gen 4runner. any FJ cruiser elocker. any Tacoma elocker. than you modify your axle housing to fit it.

i installed an elocker in my 1st gen 4runner and i love it

No 1st or 2nd gen trucks had factory lockers, at least not in the States. Not too hard to modify your axle housing to fit one from a 3rd gen or Taco though - google "toyota elocker retrofit".

So it is the same type of retrofit axlehouse modification that people do on their non-e-locked 3rd gens, right? Cool. Do you still use the Toyota e-locker module since there is no dash light or factory pre-wiring?

Also, lets say I go to US for a weeklong, how hard is it to source one with all the needed items and for how much money is this kind of thing changing hands there?

ToyoTech, how much did you pay for that e-locker actuator skid/protection?

Some crazy ideas over here... Thanks you all for the inputs.

Yup - they're all 8 inch thirds, so the axle housings are identical in that respect. There's no difference in the retrofit between first, second, and 3rd gen trucks. If you want to get jiggy with it, you can rough in the wiring and use the factory switch and computer, and that'd be cool if you took the time. Personally, I'll probably use a generic switch and an idiot light when I do mine, because I hate taking the time to do wiring the right way. :)

They're not hard to find at all. Check out car-part.com for inventory in junkyards in the area you're going to be in. I'd expect to pay at least $500 for the elocker third if they know what they're selling. I've heard of guys getting them from pick-and-pull yards for much less because the guy at the counter thought it was a regular third.
