Did 3RD GEN 4Runners come pre-wired for RR DIFF LOCK?

Did the 3rd Gen 4Runners that did not come with Rear Locking Diff come pre-wired for the RR DIFF LOCK?

I own a 99 3rd Gen 4Runner 4x4 SR5... If I were to find a rear locking differential at salvage yard, would it be as easy as bolting on and plugging in? or does a lot of wiring need to be done?

Thanks guys! Any feedback is greatly appreciated!

most did, toyota did not make to many variations of the wire harness... as long as its not a bare bones 4cyl it should have the wiring for it.

My wife's manual 1996 SR5 was not pre-wired.

I really have no clue on the pattern of pre-wiring vs. non-prewiring though.

I'd wager a guess that pre-wiring was more likely on Limiteds, though, since that option was more common on them.

I have noticed on my odometer, next to my ECT pwr..... I see the RR DIFF LOCK indicator. Although I do not have a e locker. If the sun shines on the odometer, I see it lol. Makes me wish I can see light up !!!!!! You think this means I am prewired ? And if I was to get elocker I could possibly mak it show up on my odometer that it's on.

If you are indeed prewired for it, then when you turn it on it should show up on the dash.

not necisarlily... you will need to pull the dash and put a socket and bulb in that location. -you will also need to change your ECU to a like year and model with the Elocker. or take it and have it reflashed at a dealer -not all dealers will do this though or know how to. you will also need to use all the factory wiring when doing this mod...

Yes. There was no wiring. No wiring up front for the locker ECU either. She did the wiring from scratch with a relay and a stock switch.

But 100% no wiring.

Perhaps it was an early 96 production?

My 99 came with a locker, so obviously it has wiring.

I should start peaking at 4Runners in junkyards. Maybe no wiring at all is rare?

so it turns out that I do have the black plug shown in the photo. I also pulled one of the blank squares next to dimmer and it looks like there is a plug for Diff switch. Do you know if my wiring goes all the way through from rear seat location? What else would I need to complete the wiring? Is there another harness to look for by drivers kick panel?

Any feedback is greatly appreciated. Thanks again
