So yesterday we went to look at a 3rd gen - for a couple reasons...
The dealer has had it a long time and as such I figured they would negotiate
Manual transmission
170k original miles
In fair warning - it has a rebuilt title from a front end accident, I knew that.
Get there and the outside is quite clean aside from some of the front end not aligning right lights/body wise - the supports looked good, just not great work and I could fix it.
The interior was another realm. Carpet was an odd almost purple color. Front leather seats were torn. Missing the center console armrest cover entirely. Random little issues - climate control knows MIA, seat belt trim missing, fake wood trim horrendously faded.
Was at a lot jammed packed so tight I couldn't even open the passenger doors to look.
Price was $7k. He said lowest was $6k. I offered $5k cash, contingent on a good test drive. He accepted.
I noticed the power steering pump was whining and when checked was low. Oh well, no biggie.
Buckled up and instantly another minor issue - dash isn't indicating the belt is locked. Again, whatever - it's a simple connection.
All interior otherwise worked - windows, sunroof, climate, AC, rear climate etc.
On the test drive... driver blinker flashed fast... ok, a bulb or simple wiring.
Mild hill at 35mph, pop it in 4th, give it gas - and rpms begin to rise without acceleration. Ok, so clutch is slipping too.
At above 20mph the front left would begin to shake pretty bad. Could be a variety of things - warped rotor and bad caliper (though it didn't pull), bad TRE, unbalanced or flattened tire... but made me uneasy at 40mph let alone the 100+ mile freeway drive home.
I passed due to minor and a couple "bigger" issues.
Now what i think made it stand out a tad (and I didn't test) was that it was both a manual and had a factory rear locker.
I've found several manual 3rd gens, but no others with a locker....
Is this a rare combo?
