Did my wheels and ditched the running boards...want some thoughts

I am actually trading my tube steps and roof rack for your type of running boards and roof rack. I plan to tint the front windows, paint the rims black and I really want to black out the emblems. I will leave the Toyota centers chrome though.

Did you take yours off or did you paint them?

Would I just spray paint them black?

I had my body shop paint all the silver bits including the roof rack which came from the factory in silver. The front and rear bumpers had the center parts in silver which I wanted to paint body color to complete the all black look. While I was doing all this, I also had them powder coat the Toyota wheels. I actually think they powder coated the factory center caps too because it's the same gloss and exact same shade of black as the wheel itself.

After 15K miles on the car since the above work, it still looks good as new.

If you're kind of anal like me, I would not paint the wheels. Sure it's cheaper, but you'll pay for it via wear/tear very quickly esp on a utility car like the 4Runner.

agree...im not down w spraying anything on the car unless its tinting lights but not sure about body parts

I really like the black rims. Especially the matte black. I'm too scared to paint them though so I'm going to try black lug-nuts on the silver sport rims. Different, but less risky.
