Did the previous owner do something dumb?

So I was adding my bump stop extensions to the rear of my 05 Limited today, and I noticed that the spare tire is on a 16" rim. I don't know what rims came on my 4runner originally because the previous owner swapped on some fake/chrome versions of the current 17" TRD Tacoma rims. I'm confused if the previous owner may have bought the spare tire as a spare not realizing that a 16" rim wouldn't fit. Or may my Limited not have the bigger brakes? Anyone have any input before I spend an hour seeing if the spare tire will fit?

Look on the drivers door jam, it will tell you what your t4r came with.

Some models will have bigger brakes, not sure which ones as mine doesn't.

Not all limiteds have the big rotors, my '03 has the small ones.

The doorjam says 17x7. Does that mean that the 16" spare won't fit at all?

No, all that tells you is that was the size wheel that came with the vehicle from the factory.

I swapped out my OEM 17" wheels (2008 SR5 V8) for 16's to gain more sidewall.

Not sure when they changed to the larger rotors/calipers in the Limiteds though.

I would just go try it.

So I just jacked it up and tried it if anyone cares...

The good news is that I have big brakes.
The bad news is that i've been driving around for tens of thousands of miles with a spare that won't even fit. Idiot previous owner.

You should be able to pick up a spare wheel for short money if you watch the ads.
