So if all both shafts and front diff is spinning while driving 22 wheel drive, the only things that benefits in lubrication when switching to 4x4 is transfer case and front prop, right?
Yea, When you are in 2wd in the 5th gen part time system.. Both CVs are spinning as the wheels turn. The driver side CV shaft is connected all the way to the diff. The passenger side is disconnected from the diff inside the ADD since the collar is not slid over the stub shaft coming out of the diff.
This results in only the side side gears spinning in the diff, not the ring or pinion. That little stub shaft on the passenger side is spinning in the opposite direction.
Also the chain in the T-case that links to the front prop shaft is not moving...
Once you engage the T-case.. The front prop shaft starts spinning and the stub shaft will therefore start moving at the same speed and direction as the passenger CV allowing the collar to slide over and link the passenger side to the diff... This is why you often need to be moving to actually go into 4WD. The splines need to line up before the collar will slide.
The ECU never activates the ADD motor until it sees that the T-Case is in 4WD. There is a sensor/switch at the top of the T-Case that pics this up.. but it can wear out and then no 4WD. Seems to be a pretty common problem.
