Didn't someone say they had the spoiler installed?

I had a spoiler added later. I got it off of ebay. Like $100 painted. Some guy from canada. I have made a lot of mods to my 4runner and that one was the only one that I couldn't do by myself. I know that sounds funny, but damn it was hard. I finally paid a guy 75 to do it for me.

Your dealer is full of it.. When I bought my 4Runner off the lot, it didn't have a spoiler. I wanted one so we worked it into the deal. A couple of days after I took possesion, the spoiler arrived, I dropped my truck off and they installed it for me.
Were you buying the spoiler from them? Maybe that is their hangup.

Spoiler Depot's spoiler quality is very close to OEM. Specially, the paint job is excellent, and the price is NOT bad at all. However, the spoiler doesn't come with TEMPLATE for installation. They used sharp head screws to imprint on the paint as a drilling mark. I've helped a friend to install one of this on his 4runner, and it was a pain in the A$$. He paid $207 off ebay, compare to $271 + Tax @ local dealer. I'd go with the OEM anytime.

2) No way to run the wiring to the new brake light.
3) Factory install only b/c rivets are used to install.
ZonaT4R, could you send me pictures of your install so that I can show them? I would like them to see both brake lights and how your dealer installed the thing. I would greatly appreciate it.

I found out after speaking to my parts guy in Columbus, OH that toyota in fact offers accessories and etc. depending on which part of the country you are in. I faxed over a picture of your runner along with the PDF file from your other thread, showing the spoiler being installed after market. My parts guy called down to Florida and found out that the kit does indead exist and the installation is very similar to the Highlander's (which they do here...explain that?!?) My guy had no idea about the part number on your file b/c those part numbers do not exist is this area of Toyota. So, to make a long story short, my toyota dealer ordered the kit from the Florida Toyota people and I will have a spoiler on my truck...again, you are the man. This is why this board is amazing.
Did you know that there are 3 regions of Toyota in the US? A Midwest/East, Southeast, and West. Toyota only really, "ownes," the Midwest/East division. The other two are independent Toyota divisions...hence why the part numbers are different.

Yo! In case you don't know, but if your dealer order one of those spoiler out of SOUTHEAST DISTRIBUTOR warehouse in Jacksonville, FL. Then your spoiler is also aftermarket. However, it's big different in quality compared to others after market as you've in accessories stores and ebay. They're NOT import from Japan. They are made here in US, but legally certified by TOYOTA as OEM. Now, all of those 4Runners had spoiler installed at the port as shown on PORT INSTALLED OPTION sheet, then they're all after market w/ OEM quality. And I've have one of this on my truck.

Man.. they really have to make things difficult for us, don't they! :bash: Glad you got it figured out.
As I was driving home yesterday, I was thinking about your situation and the link to the installation instructions. It didn't dawn on me when I posted the link but those were Toyota Factory installation instructions! DUH.. No denying you now!
Oh, here is a tip: When they do the install, you may want to ask them to remove the bulb from the tailgate light. I assumed they would do this on mine... they didn't. So, even though the spoiler covers up the tailgate light, at night, you can still see a glow behind the spoiler during braking. Here is the catch... Once the spoiler is on, you can't get the old light fixture out in order to pull the bulb! (not quite enough room) Guess I'm stuck with it. Not a big deal, but if you have a preference, its something to think about.

Then push gently so u can see where teh screws are going to hit and start drilling. Then drill from the inside. The lef side will be easy. The right side had an extra layer to cut through. Get touch up paints to paint where u cut so it wont rust. Then just tap into the rear light. The light on the door will no longer be functional.
I like the fact that it is LED's rather then bulbs.
I would just have them send it out to a body shop (sounds like what they want to do), and it shouldn't be that much money. Mine was less than $100 to install that way, and my dealer covered it under the existing warranty, because I went through them for the installation. I bought mine as an OEM accessory through a dealer in the Southeast, so it was covered as a true Toyota Accessory.
I don't blame you for wanting to have the "pros" do it. I thought the install looked fairly easy from the instructions, and I had the template and everything. Got all the way to plugging the drill in and turning it on, and I just couldn't go through with it. The thought of drilling into my $30,000 brand new 4Runner was too much to bear. Unplugged the drill, and ran to the dealer. It all worked out. The body shop did a good job.

Actually, the Toyota body shop doesn't want to do it either. I think they want to send the truck out to an outside company to have it done. I said no way.
It all worked out though...instead my wife let me buy a new set of Hogan Apex irons for my golf trip next month.
