Diff Breather Help

I only have 1 breather hose mounted in my engine bay and was wondering if the other hose may have dropped down somewhere. Can anyone tell me if their 3rd gen has 1 or 2 breather hoses mounted to fender apron? There should be 1 for the transfer and 1 for the front diff, right?

Should be two right next to each other.

alp - If you're looking at the engine bay, it's to the right side, towards the firewall.

So far I found only one on my 1999?

I looked all over today and could still only find the 1. I didn't trace it back but I'm pretty sure the 1 was from the front diff. If it weren't for half a glacier being stuck underneath my runner I would've removed the skid plates to trace it.

Ok I just checked the '02 FSM and it definitely shows 1 breather hose for the transfer and 1 for the front diff. Now I'm wondering if this was yet another difference between the '99-'00 and '01-'02. I remember Thai discussing the 2 breather hoses from the factory and I think he had an '01 or '02.

Ahh yeah, I know for a fact that there are two on 01+. Hell you found a project for yourself, add xfer and rear diff breathers.

I would not look forward to adding a transfer breather at all, assuming that is the one I can't find. I would like some more replies from some pre '01 runners though. Come on guys, it's not that cold outside! :)

Just talk about Clear Corners and you will have 100,000 replies! haha

Alright, so I threw on the boots and went outside for ya. I just have one also. I never really looked for the front ones before because I've always heard the front diff/tranny/t-case breathers were all up in the engine bay high enough. Either way, I wouldn't worry about it. I've crossed too many flowing streams and mud holes to count over the past 9 years with mine and never had any water in any of my junk. I'll have to take a look and find em one of these days though, unless you do first.

Thanks guys! :thumb3: Foureigner: I actually found the thread you linked to when I was searching this site.

I doubt I'll be doing a transfer breather extension. I really just needed to confirm that the gear oil was flowing out of the front diff breather and not from a leaking transfer breather. :thanks:
