Diff drain plugs

Hello everyone, i will be getting my 03 limited next month, so im just preparing a maintenance list on a few things to do. I have a question about the front and rear differential. Id like to change the oil in them. Do the pumpkins have a drain plug on the bottom, or just a fill plug on top. I hate to break that seal.

Also is the fuel filter easily accessible for change? and is there a special removal tool?

A reminder to remove to fill plug first! That way you will not end up with a drained gear box with no way to fill.....
 
My recent experience with a new to me 07 T4R 2WD 43,000 mi, Certified and Bumper-To-Bumper Warr I thought. The after market Warr Co said only 4 years could come with the sale even though my contract/price is for 6. The Certification did give some extras mi on Drive-Train through Totota who d/n extend B-B on used T4Rs nor own any Dealerships. I inspected the T4R more than I planned to and documented all with Pics and all was impressive except the warr business.

The rear-end had a nice large drain and fill plug and vent. I only pulled the fill plug and used a suction gun to pull a sample of oil from the bottom of the pumpkin. At 43,000 the oil looked great but the vent got the best of me. I took the vent apart (mistake!) and finally got it re-assembled to be trusted. Tip on the 07, the fill plug was thin and soft, a 6 point socket vs 12 socked with good leverage was needed. I have lots of pics of the full under-side’s items, eng and area and brake inspections if there are questions or an interest. jow
 
Be ready for a battle if yours is anything like my '05! Have a long cheater bar handy if the last person that tightened yours was someone like the ape thst tightened mine. Ended up welding a large nut to the front dif drain plug to get it off.:redbrick:

Fuel filter is in the tank.

As for the front & rear diffs and the transfer case, they all have fill and drain plugs. You'll need a 10mm hex drive for the front diff and a 24 mm socket for the transfer case and rear diff. Do yourself a favor and make sure you only use a 6-point socket on those drain/fill plugs. They can be VERY tight if they've never been opened and a 12-point socket might round them off.
