Diff Filler bolt???????!!!!!!!!!!!!!

See any problem there? I mean, this should get me 20-40k miles no problem right?? Then, I can have someone see about some other method of fixing the issue, whether that be welding a big nut onto what's left of the filler bolt, or ____________ (whatever secret trick mechanics have to deal with bs like this).:bash: ??

That will probably hold for a while. I'd be bending down and looking at it once every few days for sure. What a cluster ****. I hate it for you.

I always put some silicone sealant on the plugs. In addition to acting like a weak thread lock, a sealant it seems to help prevent things from being really, really stuck like you had...

Idea: Remove the cover from the diff and give it a more thouough cleaning, get a new gasket and new bolt then put back together? I'd be fearful of still having metal shavings even though you did say you flushed it. More work but any shavings will really redrum ur diff.

That's great advice except for this design of diff doesn't have a removable cover. You must disassemble the rear to gain the kind of access you're talking about. To me Blackmax's cleaning/flushing efforts should be more than adequate.

isn't the cover built into the axle? my PSD cover has like 15 bolts (front and rear) and my runner has a fill plug and a drain plug.

Sad but FUNNY story or the comments. reminds me of when my cuzin was 18, had his mustang, first car and he decided on his own to change the oil(which he never did before, ever). He never asked someone or bought the car bible but did change the oil. OOOPS someone forgot to tell him there were 2 oil drain bolts - only did one but was sure to put all the oil in. BAM ZANG BOOOMM BLOWN HEAD GASKET (and then some) and steam clean the engine bay.

Off-topic, but your story reminds me of someone I know who use to take their car regularly to a mechanic for an oil change, until one other individual who pushed and pushed for him to DIY maintainance because it saves money.

First he drained the transmission fluid instead of the engine oil. Then he installed an oil filter that was missing a gasket. Somewhere in the process he stripped the transmission pan or oil pan. I think the oil change that would've normally took four quarts of oil, took eight quarts of oil, two oil filters, ATF fluid, a new transmission or oil pan, a LOT of kitty litter and degreaser.

Needless to say, I don't know who's the one that's more at fault. The one who turned the wrench and caused all those problems. Or the one who encourged this person to DIY without fully and thorougly accessing and understanding their mechanical ability.

Rounded over filler bolt

Man that really $ucks. Always remember filler bolt first before drain bolt But I'm sure I don't have to tell you that(lesson learned). I don't think you will have too much of a problem with metal shavings as the drain bolt has a magnet in the middle of it so as to collect any shavings that might remain during the course normal driving/operation. I would use the time you have bought yourself to regroup and come up with a better long term plan. I would also suggest consulting a knowledgeable local mechanic/machine shop, NOT the dealer. They should have some ideas and possibly be able to hash out a long term fix for you. By the way, the suggestion to remove the diff cover won't, all of the guts have to come out of the front of the diff(there is no rear cover like on an american manufacturer's diff). your would have to disconnect your drive shaft and literally take the differential apart.

Why dont you tap that hole and put a bolt (maybe some anti seize too) in there? I sure as hell wouldnt be driving around with JB Weld for my fill plug anywhere but the store to get aforementioned bolt.
