Difference Between 2004-2009 T4R

I am going to get a new to me 4th gen 4runner. What are the differences in vehicles for this generation? I am just wondering which years I should focus my search. From what I have been able to find, the biggest difference is the VVT in the 2007 and newer. I am 100% set on a four wheel drive V8 as I tow my ski boat frequently. Advice would be appreciated.

If anyone has a nice V8 somewhere in the Pacific NW, I am interested.

V6's had vvti, while the V8 got vvti in 2005

Wow, thanks 03 4X4runner. That thread is exactly what I needed. Looks like an 05 or newer 4x4 v8 Sport edition is the ticket.

I have a 2005 with the V8 and I love it! I still can't believe the power that comes out of it, and the ability all around. The V6 is still a very healthy motor, and has as much or more power as the V8 if you put a supercharger on it, but can't beat that V8 rumble in my opinion. I have a Gibson Cat-Back exhaust, and a K&N filter. Makes a HUGE difference too!

My apologies on the thread jack, but I noticed you have the Dynapros. I have been considering getting those for my next tires. How do you like them?

They are great. I get all around traction in multiple situations, including snow. They dig down when needed, a little slippage until they dig, then you're off. I like them on the highway too. A little rumble, but not bad at all. I can only hear them with the radio off completely. I am getting the mud terrain ones this summer some time as I want the bigger tread and they are actually rated better for snow, which we gets lot of here in Northern Michigan. 12" last night...
