differences between 96-98, 99-00, 01-02?

96-02, 7 year period with the same basic design. for my personal knowledge and perhaps someone elses, what are the differences between 96-98? to me, they look the same and i see a lot of them here in florida. difference between 99-00? what i have seen as difference from 01-02 is the license plate trim panel is chrome for 02, that is how i tell them apart.

Are you asking just from the perspective of how to pick them out in traffic, or are you asking on a functional level?

Visually, I can usually get close by looking at the grills. I haven't pegged the earlier years, but having an '01 I am more familiar with them. 2001-02 has grille with a little flat space in the middle. If the grille is shiny, it's an sr5, if shiny and colored cladding it's limited. If the grille and cladding are the same color as the body, and it has the limited 16" coke bottle wheels, it's a sport edition. If the sport has a sport badge just forward of the doors, it's an '02. If not, it's an '01.
