I took my 2001 today in for a 30,000 mile tune up and I just had to look at a new 2003 4Runner. In the show room there was a SR5 V8, white with no grey cladding. Camparing it to my 4Runner here are my thoughts:
1.) Price, the price was 31,??? and marked down to 26,??? on a sticker. I don't remember a 5,000 mark down before even talking about price in 2001. Hopefully you can get a good deal now.
2.) Trunk, the trunk is wider. I was surprised to see a storage space on the passenger side of the trunk for what ever, I have one that is slightly bigger. The tire jack is in the trunk, mine is under the back seat. I like it better in the trunk. There were two neat little storage bins in the plastic wheel-shock covers in the trunk.
3.) Rear seat, the rear seat was 60-40 fold down with three head rests and three 3 point seat belts. Mine has a 50-50 fold down with 2 head rests with two 3 point seat belts and one 2 point seat belt. The seat were also more comfortable.
4.) Hood, the engine hood in front opens up by itself, you did not have to find a metal bar to keep it open. I was surprised to see room in the engine bay to work with, not as good as my engine bay, but really very good.
Those were 4 things that stuck out, of far as the front cabin and dash, I still like the older 4Runner. But overall I like the new 4Runner, not a bad SUV. I hear everyone talking about the 2003, now all I have to do is drive one, which I won't do, I don't want to get tempted.
