different lug nuts?

hey guys I was at discount tire the other day to have my wheels ballanced. I have konig countersteer x which I had on my tacoma. discount tire tells me that the 4runner uses a different type of lug nuts, longer one to catch more thread. they installed those wheels on my tacoma and never mentioned anything about the lug nuts before. I had purchased black lug nuts from 4wheel parts and now they're recomending a new set of lug nuts. Am I alright with the regular black lug nuts or should i get their chrome nuts from discount tire?

I would like to know the answer as well. I am ordering new wheels, Ultra XD Enduros soon and want to make sure I have the right stuff for the install.

Usually its not a good thing to use the stock lugnuts for aftermarket wheels. Aftermarket lugnuts have a tapered bottom to fit the tapered holes on an aftermarket wheel. It basically prevents scratching the wheel when taking off the lugs.

discount was trying to sell me aftermarket ones that are skinier but apparently as long as the stock. he's saying that regular aftermarket lug nuts are not designed to fit the 4runner bolts since they are longer.

Usually, aftermarket wheel lug wells have a smaller diameter than stock and use tapered, or acorn style lugs. I would recommend using (Extended thread) "ET" lugs on aftermarket wheels, but unfortunately, they don't have them in black....yet.

I used these Gorilla Spline Drive E/T Ultra Style Conical Lug Nuts from Wheelers on my FJ, as they provide a good seat and good thread engagement.

Aftermarket wheels tend to be thicker through the hubs/lug nut seats and the 4Runner OEM front wheel studs are unusually short.

The Gorilla ET type lug nuts shown in FERAL 4R's post give you more thread engagement and match the 60 degree conical lug nut seats that are typical on most aftermarket wheels.

When I ordered my wheels they said I needed them as well, stock would not fit wheel do to diameter. I had them throw them in to close the deal.

I ordered aftermarket wheels also, the lug nuts, and socket came along with them. :cheers:
