Differential and Transfer Case Fluid

What is everyone running in the differentials and transfer case? Will the Mobil 1 75W-90 LS work for all? I searched the forum and didn’t find an answer. I apologize if I missed it. From what I see the LS additive won’t be an issue. Thanks in advance.

Following owners manual for 1998 4wd;
front differential - Valvoline 75w-90 gear oil
rear differential - Valvoline 80w-90 geal oil
transfer case - Valvoline 75w-90 gear oil

Should be OK to use 75w-90 for everything. Not sure about the LS but other posts seem to think it's ok.

That’s what it says in my manual for my 02. The LS part is what concerns me but everyone else says it’s ok and Mobil doesn’t have an option without it.

You don't have to use Mobil 1. The brand doesn't matter as long as its GL5, you'll do more good changing out an inexpensive oil twice as often than you will by buying an expensive oil and changing it half as frequently.

The brand doesn't make a noticeable difference to the diffs or the TC

I agree that brand doesn’t matter, but I’m getting a good deal on the Mobil 1. I’m getting it for almost for the same price as I can buy the Walmart super tech gear oil so there’s no reason not to buy it. It’s costing me $1 extra per quart. I also think it’s a high quality product so that makes the deal even better.

You should be fine, the limited slip oil wont do anything to the transfer case

+1 on agreeing with the above about the weight specs. I saw somewhere on here a long time ago where a member had actual email correspondence from a Toyota representative about this exact topic and the response they received was that 75W-90 is totally fine to use for all three gearboxes. Although I can't comment about LS fluid.

I'm sure someone else here will chime in about the specific matter, though

What makes it LSD fluid is a friction enhancing compound with no ill effects for other.
Word was 2k or so, I used LSD for first lube change, then straight 75w90 for all 200k+ mi. keeping it simple.
My oddball now is ECGS requires 85-140 for breakin recommends for use in front diff with Harrop locker.
Tried 75-90 back to having a oddball, oh well.

You can run the LS spec in a Non Limited slip application without issue.

I run 75w90 in all my diffs.

If I am cheap, and know I am going to be changing it sooner, rather than later, I'll opt for 80w90 Non-Synthetic. Running that in my front diff for a few thousand miles. I seem to need to mess with a CV axle or something every year anyway, so I don't see the need for Synthetic.
