Thanks for the recommendations. I will reach out to Curry's Autos and look into ECGS
I just heard from my mechanic that I will need a new differential as the gears are grinding. I live in Washington, DC and am wondering if anyone can recommend a good shop for a second opinion. Since the differential is still working, I have some time to do get a few estimates before having the work completed.... I also want to ensure that I need to replace the entire differential and cannot just replace certain parts. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
I'm going to assume since the OP hasn't posted since 2009 that the problem was fixed....
end thread
That's a whole different issue and a bit of a touchy subject, plenty of threads on how to figure it out. FWIW I used the spin and count method and it worked.how do I know what ratio my truck has? where do I look for codes or is that found through the VIN? mine has excessive backlash at almost 300k. i'll probably just get a low mile used rear and take out the pumpkin and swap it out.

I'm going to assume you didn't read the whole thing g and see where someone else stated they have the same issue, and was writing in an already posted thread about the issue, and we were helping HIM.
Those codes aren't foolproof. One code can be for more than one gear ratio in some cases.
Perfectly good example of why people should start their own threads instead of piggybacking off of old threads found in the depths.
