Differential parts questions??

Hopefully this will be my last post about my rear diff problems. I'm looking at parts. I think I just have a bearing problem right now. I'm trying to order parts before I tear it apart.

My question is would you buy one of these kits or just go to the dealership and buy all the needed bearings, seals, etc?

Either of those kits are fine. The bearings in them will likely be Koyo's, there is an off chance they would be Timkens...which are good just the same.

The bearings and seals you'd be getting from Toyota would be Koyo brand, they would just cost twice as much.

Just make sure you don't have any E-locker before you order, as the E-locker uses one carrier bearing that is much larger than the other

Thanks for the info. Think I will go with one if those then. I think it's just bad pinion bearings but I figure if I'm gonna pull it all apart I'm gonna replace the side bearings too.

Well actually Low Range is selling USA Standard kits, which may not be Koyo's. I would go with the Yukon

Anybody ever used one of the crush sleeve elimination spacers? Looks like a good idea.

Every diff I have put back together I have used a solid collar. They make setting the pinion preload much more consistent and if you ever have to replace the pinion seal you don't have to worry about over crushing the sleeve.

I let one guy do a set up and he didn't want to use the collar, so I let him use the crush sleeve, I was back in it a year later and had zero bearing preload. I put the collar in myself when I put it back together.

On the bearings, I would make sure whatever kit you get has either Koyo or Timken Bearings in it. Both have been used as OEM at some point and both are quality bearings. I wouldn't use anything else.

Diff setup is one place where I have used non-OEM kits, but I have been known to supplement certain seals for OEM, like the pinion seals. Generally the ones in those kits are crappy generic ones and I hate doing things twice. Most parts store parts have a "lifetime warranty" for a reason, but how many times do you want to have to change out the starter before you buy a quality OEM one. Not related, but makes my point.
