Difficult to pump gas

Oh I see, its definitely not a bad thing I've just never heard about it before. That's the same way I felt the first time I used a gas station where you need to pay first. It was in New Hampshire (or maybe New York) and I couldn't figure out for the life of me why I couldn't get the pump to work (I'm thinking to myself, god damn American gas pumps :D :jk:). Then when the attendant told me I need to pay first, I said "WTF, I want to fill it up, I don't know what the total is going to be I'm not psychic"

That was a while ago tho, now I just pay at the pumps with my card.
 
This happens to me unless I put the metal part of the filler nozzle as far in as it would go. It can't hang partway out with the "trigger guard" resting against the truck, the fill nozzle has to go all the way in the truck's filler neck, as far as you can get it, with the whole thing hanging in the air supported by the filler nozzle.

Started noticing this at a few stations in the bay area. It has been driving me crazy! Any other ideas on how to fix, as car behind me had no problems keeping the pump going.

Did this and it worked great. Was able to pump at full speed notch and not have the pump kick off once. Thanks!
 
I've has this problem too. I tried the technique by Dr. Gonzo and it worked for me. Just angled the nozzle forward, put it on the fastest pump setting and it didn't shut off. I did notice that I also had to insert the nozzle as far as possible or it would shut off, probably to create a tighter seal with the rubber boot.

This has only been a problem for about 6 months. Has something changed with the pumps recently?
 
Happened to me once in NJ as well @ a shell station. The guy thought the tank was full... he had to hold it the whole time and just keep squeezing it lol. I always go back to the same station and it hasnt happened since.

But yea ppl cant be trusted to pump gas here, some smoke and keep their engine running , no common sense @ all.
 
Used to happen to me often, but hasn't happened to me as much of late. When it does happen, it works if i hold the pump with nozzle end angled downwards (with auto latch at full). I think it relieves the air pressure so the auto latch won't pop off. You can clearly hear the gas flowing louder when in the position. i do have to hold the pump in this position the whole fill, but at least i don't have to keep fussing with the trigger.
 
Mine is really bad. I've tried every angle except upside down as someone said worked and can't get it to go and it even continues to shut off when I hold the handle. It only happens in CA but works fine in AZ.
 
It only happens to me at one gas station by my house. Annoying.

What's even more annoying is when the pumps dont have the lock to keep the pump lever depressed. I keep a strip of velcro in my 4r now for such occasions!

just read this thread and no offense to anybody but lawmakers, but thats a dumbass law to make it illegal to pump your own gas- how many times have you heard of somebody blowing up their car or gas stations?? oh yeah dont use your cell phones either ��

sorry i just cant stand stupid bs laws- its a 1,000,000x more dangerous having so many clueless idiots on the road driving

edit: when i used to live in the great white north you bet your azz i kept my truck running when its subzero- never heard any problems w that either- smoking i'll give ya that lol
