Digital Heating System

99 LTD with digital heat controls.

I believe the solution is to replace it but I'll put it out here just in case there's a better fix.

The heat controls seem to randomly turn on & off, blower speed on high on it's own, digital display shows random characters, heat temp varies even though it's set to a certain temp. I think it's gone haywire and is not fixable, has anyone experienced this and if so what was your fix?

I haven't fixed one (because I have the manual one and it doesn't break) but I have seen the chapter in the FSM on those things. They have a really impressive self-diagnostic routine with trouble codes, etc. As they are not cheap, even used, I would suggest getting a look at the FSM (Toyota Tacoma/ 4Runner/ Tundra/ FJ Cruiser Factory Service Manual Page) and giving it a try. It could be just a loose or dirty connector or ground--this does happen with those things.

When they told me to get my 5-speed, I'd have to do without a digital HVAC, I was ecstatic. I hate those things.
