Direct Control of iPod Artist/Album/Song by NAV and Steering Wheel Controls???

Hello, I have an 05 Limited NAV. I'm looking for an iPod control unit which can allow the factory NAV HU to directly control Artist/Album/Song, and not just Playlists. Is there such a device?

Coastaletech has had a note on their webpage for about the last year that they will soon release a unit to do this, but as far as I can tell nothings happening there other than this note on the web page.

From what I can tell other units control playlists only.

I've done extensive searching so if something is out there I must have missed it and would appreciate the info.

I think Dension makes a unit, but you'll have to search around. I think it's the IceLink.

Again, I have to put in my $.02 for the vais tech ipod controller. I too was looking at the dension unit, but the fact that you have only 6 playlists to use with the ice link, vs 99 with the vais tech makes a huge difference to me as I don't want to have to lump all my songs together. The vais tech product is $100 more expensive, but in my opinion worth the extra cost.

What I'm really looking for is direct access to the music from the artists/albums/songs heirarchy in the iPod. NOT through playlists. I've got a lot of music (60GB iPod) and would like to be able to directly locate music without dealing with playlists.

I haven't found anything. Lack of responses indicating otherwise seems to indicate this might not be possible with the 4Runner, or at least no one has been able to develop this. Is there anything out there that will do this?

I don't think it exists. Although I don't have a Nav, I do have a USA Spec Ipod adapter connected to my JBL. It requires you to put all your songs into playlists, but instead I just have the radio randomly select songs. With over 2000 songs, it's a hassle to go from 50 Cent to Chopin but it still beats an FM transmitter or CDs.

I wanted to do the same exact thing you are talking about, avoiding playlists, etc. and controling it from the head unit. My solution, which I'm buying (hopefully) next month is this:

Click on the iPod Fullspeed demo, it's pretty cool. Also, if you go to cnet.com and do a search on the Alpine IVA-W200, they have a very cool demo clip on their site.

Granted, you already have NAV so you're probably not going to want to replace your headunit/system, but hey, just thought I'd throw it out there...
