Disabling the “Auto” window on passenger side.

So my passenger window is starting to make some funny noises and I think it’s because of my friends and family can’t figure out how to use the auto button window properly and keep going up and down, up and down to which is just jaring the windows assemble. Instead of telling them to stop and explain every time how to us it, can I just get a Non auto switch and replace it? Would this be a direct plug and play? Also can I still keep the auto on my controls?

From a 2000 EWD: AUTO DOWN OPERATION (FRONT PASSENGER’S WINDOW)
With the ignition SW on and with the auto SW of the power window master SW or power window control SW front RH in
DOWN position, current flowing to TERMINAL 7 of the power window control SW front RH to TERMINAL 6 to TERMINAL 1
of the power window motor front RH to TERMINAL 2 to TERMINAL 1 of the power window control SW front RH to
TERMINAL 12 to GROUND, causing the motor to rotate towards the down side. Then the solenoid in the power window
control SW front RH is activated and it locks the auto SW being pushed, causing the motor to continue to rotate in auto down
operation. When the window has completely descended, the current flow between TERMINAL 6 of the power window control
SW front RH and TERMINAL 12 increases. As a result, the solenoid stops operating, the auto SW turns off and flow from
TERMINAL 7 of the power window control SW front RH to TERMINAL 6 is cut off, stopping the motor so that auto stop
occurs.

The section I highlighted in bold leads me to believe that the auto up/down is internal to the switch. If you can find a switch without auto function to swap out then I would assume that would work, but my EWD only shows auto windows (no other window control options available) which leads me to believe that there isn't a manual switch. If you can find a spare window switch maybe you can try removing/disabling the solenoid that controls the auto function.

You know I might just pop the rear door switch out and see if it works on the passenger. Unless I need to find a passenger button from an SR5 or base model.

I have some extra window switches by me at work from when I went from wood grain to black trim. The front window switches are different connectors than the rear window switches. If you pull out your passenger front window switch and flip it over you should see a black cube on the back of the switch. It looks like a small relay to me. I bet that is the solenoid, but I don't know if that is a required part of the circuit to work or not. If you're going to try removing the solenoid I would try it on a spare window switch.

Welp, I can already tell I won’t be able to do the switch. The entire unit is bigger then the non auto. But is this the relay you are talking about?

The window switches pretty much have to be the right ones. You can’t really go between years (I think 96-98 are compatible, 00-02 also, and ‘99 is its own). I know if you try to put a 96-98 in a ‘99 it won’t fit and that the electronics won’t work if you try with a ‘00-‘02. Another thing I learned is that for any of the other switches to operate, the driver side ‘master’ switch has to be plugged in. Doesn’t sound like you are planning to take it out, but it would’ve saved me lots of time to know those two things.

Do you think that relay can be pulled to stop the auto? I have a 99 limited and notice online the auto switches are way different compared to the non.

Pure guesswork here but I would imagine that pulling the relay would break a circuit, stopping all window operation. In my mind I feel like it would act similar to trying to operate the passenger window with the master panel unplugged, which results in none of the windows working. I agree with above that said to try it on a spare window switch. Luckily they seem to be reasonably cheap and pretty plentiful.

Definitely update this thread if you end up experimenting with it. I had a really hard time finding info when I was swapping all my windows.

I think the part you have circled is the window auto switch "solenoid" (what I'm calling a relay)

The window moves freely up and down, but I can hear some spring noise if I had to guess the sound. I don’t want to take apart the door panel yet as I have bad luck breaking clips and who knows if I even find an issue. Also while I’m in there I’d like to change to better speakers, so I need to buy those first.

I really can’t stand when people keep moving the window up and down repeatedly trying to find the desire height. Instead of complaining to stop and explain, this just eliminates it. My moms boyfriend annoys the hell out of me and this turned into a personal matter when he kept doing it.

So the actual issue here is life and a auto window button that needs to be disabled lol.

I would just put a rubber bumper so the switch cant be pressed down to "Auto".

Not a bad idea, but it’s so sensitive I’d just need to get the right piece and it would have to be stuck on at an angle being the bottom of the switch moves down

Just leave the window lock button on, you want your window rolled down you gotta ask permission. Hahaha..

I’ve actually done that before lol. My buddy asked if I could unlock the window and I said what level do you want it at? He then proceeded with an attitude and told me I’m anal and just unlock the f’in window. I rolled it half way lol. Two months later I’m riding in his truck and the tables had turned and I was asking him and of course he monk me.
