disconect battery?

i am hardwiring my escort radar detector to the fuse box..do i need to first disconnecy the battery so i don't deploy the air bags? if so how long does the battery need to be disconnected before i start the project?

i have an '06 sr5 with front air bags only.

I would say DEFINITELY disconnect the battery. Any time I do anything electrical I always disconnect it just to be safe. I dont ever wait at all after disconnecting it before starting working. Maybe I should, I dont know!?!?! My airbags havent deployed yet (knock on wood)

Why would the airbags deploy by hardwiring in a radar detector??? I've never disconnected the battery and have installed many electrical devices with no problems, I've just been careful. Can't hurt to disconnect it though, so if you think you should, then go ahead and do so.

Any time you mess with the electrical system on your vehicle, take the extra 5 seconds to disconnect the battery.
The airbags are not a major threat, and airbag controllers can hold a charge for up to 30 minutes (possibly more) after the battery is disconnected, so disconnecting the battery may not do anything. The way I look at it is electricity doesn't usually feel good when you come across it unexpectedly, so nix the battery.

I always disconnect the neg. (-) terminal. As for the airbags, the electrical manual says to wait 90 seconds after disconnecting before doing any work.
