Disconnected my sway bar. I like it

I recently found out on here that you can drive without your sway bar. Well I knee you could but I thought it would effect the can't of the tire.

Anyways one of mine was loose and so I figured I should take yen off and drive it, if I don't like it I'll just use it as an excuse to pit some new bushings on.

Well I drove it 50miles to work and so far I love it.

I notice the sway at slow speeds, at high speeds it doesn't really bother me. I find that it rides smoother now and bumps
or holes are felt less, especially when you hit say a speed bump
diagonally.

This is great so I think I'm just going to Finish removing the sway bar tonight.

Should I remove my rear? You can feel the smoothness of the front vs the roughness of the rear. However Im worried that with my rear disconneceted the body will be allowed to sway fully.

are you sure you want to keep the sway bar off?...I'm asking because it maybe a insurance issue, if you get into a accident because of that part being removed.The insurance company may or may not cover you
Just something to think about:)

I have seen and read about folks removing the sway bar/bars and liking the rotation so I'm sure you will get mixed opinions
 
I did consider that, though I only have liability, I guess I should check with them.

It's a 97 limited with 210,000 miles, doubt it matters
 
I have flexed so much that I sheared off all 4 bolts holding it on, and I haven't drilled it out yet to re-install it.

No sway bar is great for off road, I can flex like you wouldn't believe. But on the road I am not a fan. Not at all.

It's really all up to you and your driving ability and if you're willing to take the risk. I'd compare it to wearing your seatbelt; 99% of the time it's not necessary to drive...but that one time you're gonna wish you were buckled in. Same with the sway bar, that one exit ramp you take too fast, as the inside wheels start to come up, you'll wish you had your swaybar to keep them down.

Get quick disconnects. That should solve your problem of being on the fence.:guitar3:

On the road I'd put it back on since 4Runners are a bit top heavy and in an emergence manuever the sway bar could play a role in deciding if you roll or not. Off road it's no big deal since you rarely go over 20 or 30 mph but the dynamics change when you start going over even just over 40mph and could be dangerous.

Just be safe and alive instead of wrong and dead.:dancin:
 
I wouldnt take the rear sway bar off you will notice a loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooot of body roll. I did it and it just isnt practical for street use. Plus IMO you should need limiting straps if you are gonna allow that much play in suspension for off road play.

I use Warrior Products disconnects. You must measure your truck for the correct length to fit your lift. They work okay, but you must keep them greased or they will be difficult to get on and off.

I also felt the need to modify mine with this rod from mcmaster carr. just grind it down to the exact length inside the tube between your top and bottom connector tabs. It helps with the popping noises experienced with this type of setup. My best results were experienced with the 90 Shore 00 Durometer, but the equivalent with Shore A would probably work just fine as well.

Depends on what setup you have. I do not run limiting straps because I only run a 1.5" stiff lift with a 1" diff drop. Lifts built for travel or for those running without a diff drop, I would completely agree with you.
 
I took my front off last weekend (cause a link snapped) and have been running w/o it all week. I do tell a difference on road, but not enough to make me want to spend $$ on it right now. If I do put it back on, I think I will be going with discos, but for now I'm good with it off. It does force me to drive a little slower tho, which is probably good for me anyways.

I would leave the rear on, cuz like rtgt4r said, you will get a "loooooooooooooooooot" of body roll with both bars off. Also, most insurance adjusters probably wouldn't even know it was gone if they were inspecting a crash, but it is a valid point. I'll see what I can find out since I happen to work for one of the biggest insurance companies.

i took my rear sway bar off now with lc coils it flex's soo hard if you go to pull out and cut the wheel sharp it will lift the front tire off the ground
 
I removed both sway bars this weekend, ride is a little better but nothing extremely notable. However, flex is a lot better and the body roll is not too bad. I'm not a Mario Andretti on the exit ramps, so i think I will be fine.
 
Ive driven with my front off for YEARS, and zero issues.... I wouldnt remove both, but thats me..

when mine broke it was super body roll for me.. but then again, i also had old suspension then..

now with the coilovers and new shocks/coils in the back, maybe it would be better?

I think there would be a lot less body roll with the new suspension. I had more body roll with my old suspension and sway bar hooked up than I do w/ my new suspension and no sway.

Sounds dangerous.

Sway bars were also added for stabilizing the rear end for the purpose of cornering while towing a trailer. If your guys tow, it would be a bad idea to do so without a rear sway bar.
