Hey all. I own an 05 Sport Edition 4WD and would like to disconnect the daytime running lights. Any advice on how to do it?

It's as simple as replacing the DRL relay with a non-DRL relay. You should be able to search the forum for specific details. I know there's been a thread or three about that exact subject.

Disconnected mine at the stealership via a laptop computer. They charged $40. and I got to go with the mechanic while he did it b/c there are several options I had him turn off, like door locks: when you start your vehicle the door locks autmatically lock and then unlock when your vehicle is put in park or after you turn off the vehicle (cant remember which one it is/was). This feature is now turned off to save wear and tear on the actuators. Turning off the running lights is done with a click of a mouse. Worth the $40 to me.
Just FYI -- you can set the locks to lock/unlock automatically or disable the automatic locking yourself without visiting a dealership. I believe the instructions are in your owner's manual.

Like obxfishin said, it's just an on/off setting in the body computer as long as it came with DRL's from the factory. That's better than messing with relays or wiring IMO.

My "actuators"/ light bulbs don't need exercise. They don't care.
My personal preference is to have them disabled.
As for the folks that are prone to seizures while driving during the daytime.......Not driving and utilizing public transit would be doing us both a favor.

When they disabled the DRL can you still turn them on manually? (by turning the light switch)

In that case, that just defeats the purpose of disabling DRLs. You always have to turn the light switch at night.

I think so. Waaaaay up behind the fuse block below the dash. I didn't realize how much crap is under there! You need to be a double jointed monkey to get under there just to reach them! I think I'll need to take off the bottom part of the dash around the hood and gas door releases to get to them.
This is only my second Toyota and only had this one several months. I'm finding out that this one compared to my Tacoma has a lot more electronic extras. I'm a little on the green side when it comes to pins and switches and the like.:wow:

Why can't you just remove the DRL fuse?
From what I've been reading it has to be replaced with a non DRL relay.

What will the non DRL relay do? With my '03 Limited: If i disengage my emergency foot brake after i turn on engine, DRL's turn on. When i turn my headlights, my DRL's turn off and vice versa. And it will be still on even tho i put the emergency foot brake on when i park with engine still running. Then i will be back to square one once i turn off the engine. Now if i turn off the engine without putting the emergency brakes on; and when i turn on the engine back again, the DRLs turn on. Here's my tricky question: If you replace the DRL relay with a non DRL, which relay is this coming from? The headlights or the emergency foot brake? Sorry, i didn't read the 12 pager --i'm lazy. But if i want my DRLs off, i'll just pull the fuse. Also, it'd be easier if i want it back on vs twisting and turning. :jump:
