DISCOVERED Cheap Bug Deflector

i dont know if many other members know this, but i wanted a bug deflector for my 4runner and didnt know which brand to buy or which was the cheapest. I found out my local pep boys sells a bug deflector for a 3rd gen. Its only $60, looks great, and took about 2 minutes to install with no drilling. Just wanted to share my finding!

Nice, I've noticed there were two that I knew of. One being AVS I believe and the other being OEM Toyota. Post a picture!

I do like the look of the OEM Toyota versus the AVS one because if I remember correctly the Toyota one bends with the lines of the hood, but then again it also costs twice as much if you can even still buy them.

But good find! post a photo!
 
I have the AVS one I picked up at a "Checker" which was on sale for $40. I replaced the cheap pop tabs it came with for some used to mount motorcycle race body work. It's pretty awesome and looks clean. Don't notice any misalignments or body lines that don't match up.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but $60 isn't cheap! I picked up an AVS 23041 for $46.82 and that included shipping. It mounts to the factory location, and also take only a couple minutes to install.

Here's the link to it, and it's actually a bit cheaper now.

Yeah, I paid $43 on amazon for the bug-flector. That is the normal price.

FWIW, I had my doubts about the cheap plastic pop tabs myself, but they have dutifully held that thing on for about 5 years now when the deflector itself has finally broken. So while they feel cheap, they seem to do the job just fine, and they are pretty flush. They don't hold the deflector that tightly, so it vibrated a bit in the highway, but it doesn't contribute to noise to my knowledge, so I have never worried about it.

I will note however that on mine, there was some contact between the deflector and the body when you shut the hood. I think shutting the hood in the winter caused my deflector to crack and eventually break. I may try to hammer on the sheet metal a little bit to alleviate this contact when I finally install my new one.
 
Dang, I've wanted a bug deflector for quite a while (I like the look of them), and this might be the answer. I kinda wish it were like the OEM one and wrapped around a little bit, but oh well... the price may be worth it
 
I seem to be the only one with a weather tech bug deflector? I picked mine up like 6 years ago off of 4wheelparts for what I think was 50 bucks. And it wraps around more than the other one. (don't mind the guy in the picture haha)

i almost bought a weather tech one last night, but got the AVS one for like half the cost...
 
Auto Ventshade 23041 Smoke Colored Bugflector

Just my quick review.

On amazon for about $40.

The shape is perfect and I think looks the best of most I looked at. I don't like the ones that wrap all the way around the fenders.

Mounting hardware is a joke so the two options are:

1) Sheet metal screws. If you go this route ensure you use ones that are small enough you don't poke through the top of your hood. Same if you attempt to drill any kind of pilot hole (make sure the drill bit is short and won't go too far.)

2) Use plastic pop rivets! I found some at ACE that worked perfect (with a little trimming). After installing with 4 of these I didn't even need to bother with the sheet metal screws!

Don't know how to tell you this mate, but your bug deflectors no good. There seems to be an entire head stuck on your windshield. However it did manage to properly deflect the rest of the body of whoever you ran over, away from the windshield so there's that.

Thanks for the part number, I'm going this route as well. Using this Toyota dealership for the purchase since they're a bit closer so shipping is a little cheaper. I wish I could also get the OEM sunroof deflector!

Hey Beaumont what year is your runner? I used the site below to verify fitment for my 2000 and states that it doesnt fit. I emailed the toyotapartspeople to see what they say since there site says it does.
