DIY? Installing wires for a dashcam through the 5th gen headliner?

You can use an add a circuit off the fuse box and run the wire up the a pillar, it will take maybe 5 minutes total. You can also tap off the mirror wires or wires in the overhead console. The a pillar plastic cover comes off with a single screw, it's about as easy as a vehicle project can get.
To get to the rear, running under the door sills and then up the back may be easiest path, but you could also just tuck it along the top.

I ran my wires for the front dash cam through the front part of the headliner to the passenger side A pillar, down the A Pillar down and under the passenger side glove box and to the cigarette lighter. The rear camera wires were routed through the front part of the headliner, down the A pillar to the passenger side floor trim to the rear. Can't see the wires and looks clean. Similar to this:YouTube

There’s a post on my trips and mods thread in my signature below that is a walk through of how I installed my front and rear cameras and routed the cables.
This plugs into your dash cam and into the connector on the back of the rear view mirror.

Wait WHAT?!? Our rear view mirror (2017 4runner) has a a power source on the rear veiw mirror??? LOL I am not at my truck now (travelling) but this would be awesome!

It sure do. I have my Valentine One powered to it. 2nd reason to own a 4Runner. 1st is the back window down.

HECK yeah this is awesome. SO SINCE the back windows goes down, which is great, the DOWNSIDE is i seemingly cant get a dual dashcam, as I cant mount the camera on the window. It does not look like the main units recommended have an exterior camera for the duo ones.
Does anyone have suggestions for a dual?

Maybe use a cb mount to the plastic side pillars?
The AutoDim rear view mirror receives power when the engine is running. There is a 4 pin connector on the front of the rear view mirror.
The AutoDim/Homelink rear view mirror on my wife's 2013 Subaru Outback has a similar 4 pin connector on the front side of the mirror.

I have a dual cam setup. Just use the headliner plug in the back to hold a small bracket. Check out the link in my description to see how I did mine. I’d link directly but it’s a PITA on mobile to do it.

Late to the post but for future reading, I just got the Garmin Mini dash cam and installed it. Came with two usb cables. The longer of the two was long enough to run between the windshield and headliner, down the passenger A pillar, across the dash to underneath the glove compartment and then between the carpet and center console up to the 12v inside the arm rest. I also ordered the 2 prong dash cam adapter from Dongar Industries like the amazon link above but have yet to wire it. Still figuring out the best way. If someone has wired it to the rear view mirror I'd love to hear how it turned out.

Did you install this? I have one on order but not sure if to t-tap it in or add the hot together and ground together in new prongs
I might try ordering this today unless someone knows of what type of connector that we have in the overhead console, then I might just try soldering together a plug and play adaptor setup instead.

I had no issue running my rear dashcam wire all the way to the back. I followed the headliner along the tops of the drivers side doors and the only place where I had to fish the line was behind my molle panels where I couldn't fish by hand. I commented several times that these trucks are made to have dash cams. All my wires up front and to the back tucked right in under the headliner with zero issue. The front even has a channel up top that makes tucking cables extremely easy. Took me 5 minutes to run all the way to the rear, I thought it would take close to an hour
The pins inserted into the connector on the back of my rear view mirror kept vibrationing loose. Hence, I cut off the pins and spliced the wires directly into the wires behind my rear view mirror.
