DIY: JDM Inspired Amber Corner Lens....

Just go with the Duplicolor product. Google it, many people have used it, and it's orange, not yellow.He said the first coat was yellow. Which made me think he was using yellow. Plus the Krylon website says they offer blue yellow and red only in that type of paint. Krylon: Products: Stained Glass Color
But the can in the picture looks orange/amber?
Unless you want more translucent, then I guess try the Krylon and see what happens coat to coat. :shrug:

so while we're on this topic; anyone seen a tint or smoke verison of this paint, a buddy of mine is trying to smoke the marker lenses on his old 22r-re tacoma (1989 maybe?) can't seem to find anything aftermarket, and am thinking of suggesting this route to him. any ideas?

This thread is alive! Glad to see some canadians appreciating this mod.
I read a number of car forums and decided to go to the neighborhood michaels to find the this spray. There are a few different options as mentioned by the other members, I went with this one as it was cheap and accessible and it was used before I believe on Nissan 240 forum.
Things I looked for
-somewhat weather resistant (shyed away from model paint from Tamiya)
-translucent, even though our corner lenses are pointless.
Just watched US Womens Soccer beat the canadians on tv...WOOOHOOOO!!:bravo:

Coats start off yellow, then get darker.

I was running them- not anymore as I didnt like how you could see the spacers and it rubbed just a tiny bit.

Haha! That's exactly what I thought. I never understood what the big deal was about the turn signals. I just keep them how they are, but I do think this mod looks neat as well.
i think most people's first mod is clear corners because its cheap and easy.
anyway, heres another 3rd gen with ambers:
Not to hijack, but what wheels are these? Are those stock JDM ones because I think they look sweet as hell!

Black and dark colours probably look good. I think for lighter colours (with exception to white) might not look as good.
It did cross my mind to do this as well. For an alternative you can get tint film that is designed for foglights to put on there. Lots of people put it on fogs to make them yellow, or motorcycle headlights, etc.
I think I'll eventually go with LED orange lights in my clear corners so at night they are a nice solid orange, but during the day they are clear.

I think a car should be modified in your taste, sticking with the traditional theme of any vehicle's heritage. I know a lot of people are on the other side, and feel any car should be modified to any owner's tastes, no matter how outlandish. I prefer to "accent", "subtly modify" and "add little cherries on top" to a vehicle's styling, also keeps a significant amount of resale value. See: Barrett-Jackson and customs vs restos.
Amber corners are good looking, and authentic ie: Toyota's heritage in Japan and JDM.

I prefer vehicles that have more tasteful mods to it. In reality, I go for function over looks. That doesn't totally exclude the fact that I will make small changes to the vehicle to make it look better. I try to keep things as OEM as possible.
By the way, I can't get over how badass those Jaos wheels look! I just wish they weren't so rare and EXPENSIVE!!!

I posted on page 1 of this thread and here I find myself several years later doing amber side markers and I’m loving the look. It helps get rid of the monochromatic look I had going on and adds some more contrast. I’ll probably be retrofitting the blinker pigtails into the corner lights later down the line when I upgrade to an aftermarket bumper but for now they’re just a more noticeable side marker light.

I used the stock side markers off my 2000 so you can use either.
