Do 3rd Gen's have any rally potential?

Hey guys, do any of you think the 3rd gen has potential as a rally truck? I figured probably not due to the lack of power, but perhaps a 5 speed and supercharged would give it a fighting chance? Thanks for your input!

The rally trucks I've seen do well are usually 2WD pickups.
T4Rs have a lot of un-needed weight (doors/hatch/etc.)
And bashing a 5 speed version seems a bit wasteful to me given their numbers.

Anything is possible with enough $$$

I don't know what type of rallying you're talking about but most "rally" vehicles only resemble the original vehicle.

Like the picture that Scottydoo posted they are so heavily modified that you could rally almost anything.

I would say it has potential but not close to the best platform.

My AWD turbo DSM does awesome in rally with boost dropped from 35psi to 10psi.

I would say no, but we all know how successful Mitsubishi was with the Pajero/Montero which is very similar to 3rd gens, so anything is possible with enough cheddar.

LOL...My ignorance is shining today....what is a DSM?

Diamond star motors - a collaboration between Chrysler and Mitsubishi from the late 80s though late 90s. First and second gen Eclipse/Talon, 3000GT/Stealth, and a few others were products from DSM. Probably why my first car (1999 Eclipse, non-turbo) was such a flaming pile of s*** despite the fact that it looked great...Dodge blood. Used the same block as a Neon, unbeknownst to me at the time. Bought it thinking it was pure Japanese, but the quality ended up being unapologetically American.

Like stated above it was a performance company for Mitsu that worked with Chrysler. Originally developed to compete in Rally. The first was a Turbocharged 4g63 block, DOHC in a Galant body with AWD and 5 speed. All Wheel Steering. It made 240hp/240tq in a galant. Not bad for 1989.

The long block 4g63t is a monster. Mine is making 400+whp on a stock motor with over 300k miles. Still has good compression. All it had done was a new headgasket and head studs so they dont stretch under high boost. Ohh and added some cams.

The Mitsubishi 4G63 in the GST/GSX Turbo is great, it's the Chrysler 420a in the non-Turbo that's terrible.

Yes 420a motor is the trash one. But I have seen people boost them to 400+hp also. Not smart people. HAHA.

Its the same motor that was in the Fast and Furious Eclipse that they said was turboed. LMAO. Was so funny. I remember yelling in theater. "Thats a Neon non turbo motor!!!!!" Most of the ricer kids didnt know what I was talking about.

Wrong! I learned everything I know about cars from Fast and Furious. There is nothing false about those movies!

My favorite line.

"Granny shifting, not double-clutching like you should."

I was like, "what is he a damn trucker?!!" I was laughing so hard. But again I still loved it. Best street racing night of all time!

Haha, I love where this thread has gone. How did you guys know I love the fast and furious? I had a friend with a 99 gst eclipse that during a drive on the highway, the transmission bell housing literally separated from the motor and was hanging on by the drive shift and. *Attention, paging Mitsubishi quality control*
