Do/Have you often feel/felt disrespected at work? What did you do about it?

What should I do?

I own a Kia. Why you keep bashing on Kia? Haha I'm kidding. But Its not really a cause and effect, just that if you want to be a good salesman you have to be able to relate to who you are selling to. And hell no im not watching that crap, i hate reality shows. Haha. And it's not about achieving a goal of being successful, it's about their attitude that they are better than other people. And I don't mean to say that EVERY person with money is like that, it's just seems that the majority is. And having money affects how people act and who they interact with which affects their personality. I do admit I'm stereotyping a little but it just seems that the majority of people that I've dealt with that are wealthy have that attitude and personality of entitlement and give off that vibe of being a douche bag.

Wierd, because most of the people that actually have money that I know and deal with are not pricks at all, and while there are always some, I do not feel it's the majority, I would say that yes the people that go to merc stealer are likely pricks but who ever said they were loaded, those people are probably the "keeping up" people who are never happy because they have to top their neighbors.

I used to work at a dealership and all of that type of crap started getting to me. I got sick and had to have a catheter and my employees were more than rude about it. I'm talking about the people I worked directly with, too, who seemed nice and whatnot.

After being *****ed at for being unable to move about 200 40lb boxes with a tube running up my arm to my heart in my body (I'm a 115lb 5'5 GIRL) I lost my composure and left right then and there. I called and said I'll call them when I'm ready to come back, which my boss was fine with, but I wound up not wanting to go out of my way for these people anymore. There are plenty of other situations where I was treated badly and wanted to quit. Almost every other day I would leave and just turn into a raving lunatic on my ride home.

For OP's situation, start looking for a new job. Get away from the dealership thing. Hopefully the job you get will mean you won't have issues with paying for your car's service. I know you probably want to just quit and everything but let me tell you, finding a job right now SUCKS. I've been looking since I've been fairly healthy again/graduated and I'm having no luck. Start talking to people to see if they can help you out. Talk to people regardless and see what maybe is a better work place for you. It's not just you, the dealership thing pretty much sucks.

Not system/IT administrators, but administrative/executive assistants. My current company the AA/EAs are pretty chill and laid back. The prior company I was contracting with the AA/EAs are a real PITA.

People come from all walks of life. Most of us are speaking of the majority and not the everyone in that profession as a whole.

I was gonna say, I'm an IT specialist for the government, and a sysadmin on the side (plus I do some sysadmin stuff @ work), and most people that know me will say that while I'm 'intense' (one person said "When a problem comes up, you're like a bulldog...you will keep after a problem until it is solved, no matter what"), they'll also tell you I'm pretty laid back, always ready to laugh or smile, etc.

'Course, there are a *LOT* of IT guys that get the whole God complex; I don't understand why, because I figure that for every time I realize I'm 'smarter' than someone, there are loads of people smarter than myself.

As far as how to handle disrespect, it doesn't always work (and when it doesn't, you had better be ready to back up your words LOL), but what I normally do is wait until I can get that person alone, and then I tell them the following:

"You know I'm a nice guy, and I'll work with anyone. We also know you've been acting like a jerk. So, you have two choices. You can help me out, just generally be a nice guy to me, and you can be assured that I will do my utmost to help you out with anything. Or you can continue acting the way you are. However, realize and remember that you may be in a situation one day where you TRULY need my help...and if that day comes, you had better pray that I have the maturity and kindness to NOT treat you as you have treated me. It is your choice."

Then walk away. Thus far, it has never failed to work. (Then again, I made DARN sure that when I said it, I was fully prepared to carry out anything I said I would do.)
