Saturday I picked up a cherry 89 SR5, 188K on the odo, rock solid frame (hard to find here), and needs a little engine work.

Paid $1000, needs an $800 short block, I'm done.

If it was absolutely perfect, maybe $2500 here in the mid-Atlantic.

Ok, another thing.
An SR5 wouldn't have a plastic interior, or a 22R (it would be a 22RE (EFI) ).

so what are the different tiers of old 4r's? This is going back a bit so I'm not expecting exactness or anything, but just general stuff, also I've got this fixation with the altimeter/lean thingy in some old ones, can those be put in if they didn't come stock?

The SR5 would include an upgraded interior, mainly carpeted cargo area and doors, Cruise, Power Windows and Locks and a sunroof... The higher end ones would include the clinometer, AC and the V6.

Not all of the sr5's have power windows. I have 2 87's here that don't. Wish they did though.

Yes they can, many people buy a Tercel 4wd stationwagon altimeter/clinometer combo and mount it on their 4-Runner/pickup.

the turbo (22rte) was produced 86-87 only, sold in America only with an automatic transmission, but it was sold worldwide with a manual. a stock 4runner w/22re puts out around 115hp and the 22rte puts out 135hp. the turbo version is also supposed have a heavier duty driveline to handle all that extra power.

I know the turbo 22re aren't running much boost, but am I right in assuming a 22-RTE is just as reliable as the N/A 22-RE? The reason I ask is I found one not too far from where I live. Turbo, 5 speed, SR5, 33s, looks like Mickey Thompson wheels, manual hubs, 200k on the body, 50k on the motor I think this might be my ticket into the 4Runner club

i looked at a mint condition 22rte 87 sr5 p/u at Glacier Toyota up here in Montana and they had a window price of 10,000$. No Joke.
