do i have to change the spare

im buying new shoes for the truck, i have 265/60/18 but im installing a little lift so im going to install 265/65/18 but my spare still going to be 265/60/18
how do i keep the tire light from coming on.

You wont be able to keep it from coming on. The Tire light is sensing a size variance in the tire size.The traction control and other systems your vehicle has can be adversely affected by the size variance and that is why you have the warning light.

My understanding is that the tire light is tire pressure only. If the spare is full you should have no light. More than 1 person has used a slightly different sized spare. IMHO for short, slow drives it should work fine.

If the tire size was way off that might throw a VSC or ABS light due to the different tire diameter but not a tire pressure light.

Maybe I don't understand something.

I also remember reading in a few threads about having the different size tires setting off a warning light and affecting the way some of the different systems work like the VSC and ABS. That was listed in the owners manual and also from those that posted first hand experience.

It's always good to have a matching spare but a slightly off size spare, properly inflated, will work fine on the T4R. Other vehicles such as a Pilot/Ridgeline are far less tolerant for a variety of reasons.

i need tires bad but money is tight, i thinking that by going to a 265/65/18 i will get a softer and smoother ride but if i have to deal with the light being on then i wont upsize.

Search "same size spare tire" and "different size spare tire". You'll find lots of stuff and not one word about about the TPMS light on.

TPMS has nothing to do with tire size. You can certainly keep your spare a different size. Of couse having a same sized tire as a spare is the ideal but if that is not in the cards then keep it the stock size, at least you'll have an tire to use if needed.

I would say try to find a used cheap tire 265/65R18 to throw on the spare wheel but that is a rare tire size and you will probably not be lucky enough for that scenario.
