Do I need a new trunk latch?

The trunk will not latch, and idk if it has to do with latching part or the key part.

Meaning that I can roll rear trunk window down and up depending which way I turn the key. Maybe some things not catching? Any ideas?

if the latch is not catching, search on the forums. you'll see that the latch over time accumulates lots of dirt & gunk that jams it up. I good spray cleaning of a can of WD 40 will usually free it up. And yes, about a full can.

With the hatch partially up, just use a screwdriver to simulate closing on the striker.
Most likely, like almost all of us, it's just gummed up with old grease and dirt.
Work the latch with the screwdriver (opening and closing) while spraying your WD40 to wash out all the gunk. The just re-lube after and all is well.
It is messy though so cover everything up.

Thanks guys, I will try and do that tomorrow before school. Right now, I have the rear hatch closed by some bungees lol hopefully the screwdriver/wd40 trick does the job, or I'll be needing a new latch.

Mine went bad last year. The WD40 and screwdriver helped but it continued to get worse over the next few months and I ended up having to replace the latch, so you might start to keep an eye out for a cheap one.

I picked it up off somebody parting out for pretty cheap and swap is an easy job, worth the piece of mind that the thing won't fly open on the highway IMO.

I was just going to say a similar story, i paid full price though (~120$) from Camel-Back :mmph: . My trunk hatch has NEVER closed more smoothly though, it's effortless to get to latch tight and have zero movement.
