Do I need longer studs? (front coilover top plates)

Hey I recently completed welding the Eimkeith strut tower reinforcement and re-installed the front coilovers (Tundra TRD). But now the front coilover top plate studs barely extend beyond the nuts. Apparently the industrial standard is "A bolt should have two full threads beyond the nut. One for thread engagement and one for tolerances." Based on this I guess I would need to get extended studs. So can anyone confirm whether or not I should purchase the longer studs? Also would these be the studs that I need? Thanks.

I personally wouldn’t worry about it in this scenario. The weight of the vehicle and the spring under preload are both working in your favor here to hold the coilover up against the tower. The only thing the bolts and nuts are fighting is when the suspension is fully drooped out and the assembly would start to hang from the tower, but in reality the ball joints or sway bar would likely be acting as a limit strap at that point anyways. As long as you have at least 3-4 threads engaged I’d say don’t sweat it.

Do current studs have threads to end of stud?

There's a rule of thumb (standard) for this type of bolt load.
When a bolts thread diameter reaches diameter depth into threads it's at maximum strength.
Example: 3/8" bolt screwed 3/8" into nut threads is at max fastener strength.
If you don't have thread contact to top of those nuts I'd get longer studs.

If you drive your truck hard off-road and push it at a decent speed I would say yes. Otherwise throw some blue loctite on it and call it good

Ok thanks for the replies. Here are some numbers and a photo for you all. The studs have 4-4.5 threads of engagement with the nuts. The studs are 5/16" diameter (w/o threads) and 3/8" diameter (w/ threads). The nuts are 3/8" thick. But the more I look at it, the more I don't like it. I really would like the stud threads to extend beyond the nuts. So I will most likely get the extended studs (2" long), but cut them down (currently have 1" long studs). Does anyone know if the extended studs I originally referenced are the correct ones to purchase? Thanks.

Exactly this. Plenty of thread engagement in book and any extra threads above the nut aren’t going to do anything for you.

I had that thread contact with 1/4" Alum tophat spacer, didn't go longer studs until 3/8" spacer.
