Do I need to reposition my dashcam?

Just installed the dashcam on my 2020... was mostly concerned with the black dots and the safety sense black box, but it wasn't until after I installed that I realized the rearview mirror has a sensor (light sensor for auto-dimming I think?) on the front. It's hard to judge if it is in fact below the dashcam or not, if it will affect the dashcam or not?

Anyone have any ideas how the front one works? I thought auto-dimming was only on headlights behind you, anyway...

i put one on my 2020. ended up on the left side and it does not affect the mirror dimming feature. as it is, i have noticed that the mirror does not dim itself too often because the factory tint on the back roll down window is so dark that the headlights behind me are not bright enough to cause the mirror to dim.

That white square on the front of the mirror is in fact ONLY for the auto-dimming, right? Nothing to do with safety/high beam feature?

At least I can wait and see if I find bright headlights an issue or not, so long as that's the ONLY feature it *might* be affecting...

The auto dimming mirror uses two sensors to function.

In layman's terms, the front sensor determines if it is dark outside.

If it is dark outside, then the rear facing sensor will dim the mirror(s) when light (like a following headlight) hits the sensor.

If the front sensor thinks it is light outside, then the rear sensor does nothing - but - if something like a hangtag (or a dashcam) is in the way of the front sensor, then the mirror thinks it is dark outside and any light (like daylight) hitting the rear facing sensor will dim the mirror. This often makes people think that the problem of a dim mirror is caused by tinted windows.

Best way I've found is to put my finger over the front sensor in bright daylight to see if the mirror dims - then shine a light on the sensor to see if it lightens up.

I figured this out a while ago when I thought the dealer had broken my mirror after a service. I was sitting in the car getting ready to call them and pulled off the hangtag they put on the mirror during service to get the phone number - and the mirror fixed itself....

I had that exact issue and posted a thread on here about it. I had to move my camera to the right of the mirror and below the lane departure camera to keep the mirror from dimming all the time

im not too sure what its for but i have not notices anything different. now im gonna have to do some more research and find out whats that for.
