Do you use ETC?

So I know what ETC is and what is does, but I never use it. Just wondering if its bad to drive with it on all the time? What does it do to gas mileage? I never even can really tell a difference. Just wanting to know if you guys ever use it and what your thoughts are....

It just changes the shift points in the trany for higher rpms (later shift), right? Uses a lil more gas, lil faster.

Some people claim that if you use the ECT button in the right time, place, and road condition that it will actually increase gas mileage. As a test I went through a whole tank of Chicagoland suburb driving and I lost quite a few miles from the tank. If I'm offroading and have something that needs a bit more power or I want the trans to hold gears to a higher rpm before shifting I'll use it in conjuction with 4-lo/4-hi and a lower gear.

When I bought my Supra, I put the ECT in "power" mode and didn't touch it again until I sold the car 11 years later.

I did the same thing with both my 4Runners... the ECT button is set to "power" 24/7/365.

When I first bought the 4runner I got so mad when it first shifted. It was so early on all gears and was almost done incorrectly. Would shift right before it hits its driveablitly powerband. Then I found the ECT switch and have never turned it off since.

If the wife takes the truck I'll shut it off to save power but I cant stand driving the 4runner with the ECT off.

Thanks...that's what I wanted to hear, I want to leave it in all the time, but wasn't sure if it would cause more wear and tear on the tranny than driving without it.

Same for me, except when I bought my Supra I made sure it had 3 pedals and no ECT button! :lmao:

Hindsight was 20/20 for me on that one... When I test drove it and got into the turbo the first time I was sold, I didn't even care about the rear main seal leaking a half quart of oil while it sat idling in the sellers driveway.

Then you made sure it was turbocharged. No one buys an n/a supra if they know what there doing. I miss my boost so much.

I did ... then i proceeded to blow it up, build it, blow it up, etc .. now it sits in the back of my shop collecting dust next to the MR2. :(

LOL you sound like me. I went through one bottom end, two heads, a tranny, three clutches before I gave up on my Talon. I love Mitsubishi's and the cheap power that can be made but the drivetrains cant handle it. Only if I went auto and got rid of the crappy manual.

ECT on all the time and I turn Over Drive off while driving in town. My MPGs increased by doing this.

I burned out the light on mine it was on so much. The runner had 230k miles on it when I sold it and the trans was still working fine.

On mountain roads

and at altitude. Usually loaded down. It makes maintaining a constant speed easier IMO.
