Dobinsons 5th Gen T4R Suspension options - from Exit Offroad

Since it sounds like you really wanna maintain the r&d that goes into the fox pro suspension id put the eibach kit at the top of the list. They make the springs for most OEM applications and they designed and tested that kit tuned specifically for those shocks. You want to maintain those ride zones in the fox suspension and any springs that bring them out of different zones in compression or rebound are gonna give you a worse ride

I've sold dozens of them over the years, but can't think of any of their names.

The 1" springs are literally exactly the same as stock, but 1" taller, so there's not much to review except that it will be taller.

Swapped out my 677v for the 701v long travel coils. Install was straight forward, just need to loosen the bolts on the panhard, and control arms to get enough droop. You'll also need spring compressors to get these long boys in there. Installing LT coils is more involved than your standard 2" lift coils.

If you are running a steel swing-out with fullsize spare, tools, hi-lift, jerry cans, drawers you can skip the 675 and 677 as your rear end will be squatting for sure. Go straight to 701v.

Looks like a fun time!! Thanks for posting. I love seeing installation and getting a calming feeling that I didn't have to do it. hahaha

Did you measure the height difference before and after by chance? I've had a lot of guys ask that, and it's hard to say

Since the IMS is cross-marketed for the GX460, am I to assume I will see the same lift results as advertised for the 4R? The V8 is heavier than the 6 cylinder and the truck overall weighs more.

Also, I’m looking to order in the next few days and I saw mention of a price increase. Is there a significant increase expected? Thanks.

Yeah, the GX460 weights are different. I have it all broken down on this kit builder page on my site with every option:

Dobinsons 1.5-3.5" Lift Kit for Lexus GX460 2010 to 2021 (all options) | Exit Offroad

Dobinsons isn't announcing how much things are going up in advance, but considering that shipping prices from Australia have more than doubled in the past 6 months, I'd say it will be going up considerably. Shipping cost is a large component of suspension.

Wow. That is super comprehensive. Thank you!

One other quick question...if I’m wanting a leveled look with a 2.5” front lift, which rear coil am I ordering? 1.25” or 1.75”?

My 4R required a 1” difference front to rear for a leveled look and the last thing I (or anyone else) want(s) is reverse rake.

Here is one of the reasons shipping is delayed and costing more. Not nearly enough capacity at the ports of LA/Long Beach. There is currently a line of over 20 container ships anchored off the coast just waiting for their turn to unload.

Normally, the queue length is between 0 and 1.....

Yeah, it's insane right now.

We just got a notification for a container coming from Australia due in mid/late July. That's 3 months from now. Normally it was 5-6 weeks prior to 2020, but with the delays in transit, lack of containers actually available to fill, and lack of ships coming from Australia, it all piles up and causes much longer transit times than usual. That, plus the shipping lines have doubled their rates this year.

5th gen 4runner Dobinsons UCAs

Hi everyone,

If you are interested in a set of Dobinsons UCAs I'm going to be listing a set in the classifieds. I put them on a 2019 TRD ORP about 3k miles ago and have loved them, but am swapping out some front components at the moment. These were bought from Mike at Exit Offroad with the BJ already pressed in. Payed $640 plus shipping and I'm willing to ship them for $550. No wait time on these and they are in flawless condition. Never got the chance to off road them. Same goes for a set of C59-505 1.5 inch rear coils in red powder coat. 3k miles and they were pulled for 2 inch springs. Will be listing them for $100 buyer to pay shipping. Live in Longmont, CO if someone is local.

Cheers

Nick

I installed the 1-inch lift springs and Bilstein 5100 shocks (set to zero perch) on a 2011 Trail with 115,000 miles that has not been off-road (tires are stock). Original springs had sagged one inch. Rear shocks are Bilstein 4600 and rear springs are OEM which are still at factory ride height. I'm very pleased with the Dobinson springs. I think the lift is just right, about 1/2-5/8ths inch rake, CV shafts are almost level, and ride is improved.

Damn. I just ordered a set of Eibach rears for mine. These would have been the perfect option.

Replaced my Eibach 1" Springs due added weight from a drawer (119 lbs dry), tools, camp gear.

The rear had a noticeable sag.

Replaced it with C59-505. Couldn't be happier. Rides much better.

Wow, that's wild to hear. I knew supply lines were borked but to see that pic and hear that shipments have gone from weeks to months is insane.

I shoulda ordered the 677vs I needed when they were in stock a while ago lol. Any chance those are gonna be in that July shipment?

Has there been any reviews on how well the Dobinson's handle the northern climate and heavily salted roads? I was all set to pull the trigger on a full kit, when a buddy piped up saying "Hey, they are made in Australia, I'd be worried they don't handle our winters".

I see they are listed as having an EDP Coating, but I'm struggling to find any reviews comparing that to.. say, a zinc coating, (that I think is on some other brands like Eibachs)

Thanks in advance

C59-505 Question

There are hundreds of pages devoted to Dobinsons lifts. I’ve read a lot but not all of them. The rear spring I’m looking at isn’t super popular because most lift more than 1.5” or they are loaded with more weight. The C59-505 is a standard weight 1.5” lift. I saw only one comment on another thread from mountainbiker42 that this spring settled at 2” of lift rather than 1.5”. Any other experience with this spring? I’d prefer to stick with no more than 1.5” but if I go down to the C59-599 I may not end up with enough... thanks guys.

Thanks for the mention. I know I've said it before but I love this setup. By not going with 33" tires I have no power loss, no loss in braking performance, and the vehicle drives like stock. I can conquer some impressive trails with a 1.5" lift, good skid plates and sliders for protection.

I just ran out to the garage and measured the suspension again. At 2,300 miles after the lift I did have 2" of lift in the rear rather than 1.5" like the spring advertised. I removed the KDSS spacer which helped a little. Actually, because the lift wasn't extreme the suspension is perfectly leveled left to right without this spacer.

At 15,000 miles after the lift and adding an additional ~150lbs drawer system I am sitting at exactly 1.5" of lift over stock on all 4 corner. In total, including this drawer system, I have ~250lbs over stock on the rear axle.

Not sure why I have to load them with this weight to achieve 1.5", but it worked out well for me. I'd be curious to hear what other people are seeing.

Trying to upload a picture but it's not working.

Thanks for the response. Definitely interested in a pic. (If you have an iPhone, I had issues uploading a pic recently too of a particular image. I ended up making a screenshot of the pic and cropped what I wanted and could get that to upload. May have been a format/size issue.)

I have about 100lbs at any given time between mild recovery gear/tarps/blankets/tools and camping chairs. Maybe I could bump it up some if needed.

Did you have any KDSS lean before the lift? Nice that you didn’t need the spacer. I ordered my kit and went with the 505’s and ordered the spacers too just in case. I’ll need to see if I have the lean or not. It’s been a while since I measured. I’m always on uneven ground it seems so I don’t notice.

Thanks.
