I did this upgrade about a year ago. Still running strong. Yes it's a tight fit but it does fit it in there. This alternator is way bigger than the stock. My voltage has been always near 14v so I'm crossing my fingers it stays well. I scored the alternator on amazon for about a 100 bucks.

For the price of the Toyota 4runner high output alternator at 160 amps is it worth the 300 bucks and has anybody verified this website or that it does put out even close to that number is it actually a direct bolt on unit ?
I have an extra adapter that converts from CS144 to Toyota if anyone wants it- I’m not trying to make money but if it could help someone I’ll let it go cheap if you pay shipping. I originally ordered from Quick Start because I saw a recommendation on the forum but the package never got delivered even after paying extra for quick ship. Not sure if it’s Quick Start or Fed Ex that holds the blame but I emailed the company explaining the problem and they basically told me to kick rocks… no help at all. No new part, no discount on a replacement part, no suggestion other than to call police because it must have been stolen. I filed a claim with FedEx and they denied the claim. Quick Start never filed any claim as the shipper and offered no way whatsoever to remedy the situation.
So I ordered another one at full price this time selecting USPS Priority and while I waited for delivery I just got tired of the game and I spliced the wires myself. It’s so easy and the instructions to do so are so available that it doesn’t make sense
Not to do it yourself.
Adapter would have been easier but now I’m about $100 deep into quick shipping and two adapters, one of which I never saw and the other which I have no use for. Shoot me a message if you want it, he’ll pay the shipping and you can have it. These *******s really disappointed me, what a shame
