Does 06 SE comes without tube side step/roof rack?

Folks,

I am looking at at 2006 Sports Edition V6 to buy and noticed it has standard SR5 side step instead of SE tube side step and does not have any roof rack. It is possible?
What are my options to get the roof rack if I go for this t4r? OEM or after market?

My 04 SE has the flat plastic side steps pictured, I was never aware that the tube version was ever standard on the SE, thought it was an option. Most I see have the ones pictured. It should come with some sort of roof rack though, can't recall ever seeing one without that. Hope that helps.

During my search, I donot recall seeing any 06 and newer SE without tube step. And yes you are right about the roof rack, I never saw a 4R without one.

I thought the tube steps started in 06. Not sure if they were standard or an option though, but like a previous poster said, I have never seen a 4runner without the roof rack. I thought they also had round ones starting with the 06 SE.

This. I would say the previous owner either swapped the tube steps for a set of SR5 ones, and possibly special ordered a slick top. If you're really hellbent on a roof rack, I'd wait and just find one that has it. You'd seriously be looking at several hundred dollars for just a roof rack. It's possible that the PO cloned an SE as well. Check the brakes, or run a VIN check and see what trim level that turns out.

When I was shopping online for my 4th Gen 4R a few months ago, I was willing to (and ultimately did) fly elsewhere for a good value on the T4R I wanted, so I looked at hundreds and hundreds of T4R's for sale online ...

Anyway, in the course of my very extensive online shopping, I saw 3-4 4th Gen's (these happened to be 2008-09, the years I was shopping for) that had NO Roof Rack. They are fairly rare to run across, but they do exist. However, the ones I saw without roof racks were SR5's. None of them I ran across were Sport Editions. They look really weird without roof racks, BTW.

All 06+ SE 4Runner's come with the tube style running boards and roof racks. Something is up, perhaps contact the seller or run the VIN. Either he swapped his hood, rims, and added the side emblems to an SR5, or for some reason he changed out the running boards. I can't tell if the grill is chrome or smoked chrome, so it's difficult to distinguish between an SR5 and SE without looking at it in person.

Are you certain they are the SR5 runnings boards and not the limited ones? Perhaps he wanted the lighted steps that come on the Limited.

I have only known one person who bought one without a rack... They are rare and in most cases the previous owner removed it.

If you want a rack I would look for another vehicle. I believe the stock rack is over $1k, in which case you would be better off searching for aftermarket options (Baja Rack, Gobi, etc).

Didn't all SE's have XREAS? I believe so. If I am correct, if this runner has no XREAS, then it is a clone.

Roof Racks/VIN searches

Many of the SR5's bought for rental fleets did not have roof racks. Liability issues in overloading. i don't know if they bought SE's but it is possible.
And, VINs for SR5's and Sport Editions have the same number series. Limiteds have a different number sequence.

Well, I got the call from the dealer, who answered to my previous query aout side steps and no roof rack. Apparently this 4R was bought in germany and then was imported. So apparently the German (European) models are slightly different. Thanks ya'll for chiming in!

The Canadian ones all have the flat steps not tubes. I test drove an 08 SE V8 before buying my Limited and it had flat steps as well... and I have never seen a Canadian 4th Gen without a roof rack.

When we were looking at 4R, we found one 2009 SR5 that had no roof rack. We researched and discovered it was more trouble than it was worth to add one. We also discovered that it was a previous rental/fleet vehicle (which I would be leery of anyways IMHO.) We ended up purchasing an 06 SE and it has the tube side steps and tube roof racks. It also had the XREAS system on it until we changed it. I believe that these options came standard on the 06' from the research my husband and I did on the trucks. I would just hold out on the purchase until you found THE perfect 4R for you! Good luck!

seems like you already got your answer, but i have and bought an 06 SE in 06 and they did come with standard tubes step and roof, i know i have seen 4r without racks and rear spoiler...looks odd, but never at SE, im sure its possible though.
