Does any one know if i can change the MAF sensor on my 1988 4Runner?

Ok i have a 1988 Toyota 4Runner, and i want to improve the airflow and that old maf sensor sucks. it has a diameter of about 1 1/2 inch diameter. the air flow is lousy and could be improved.

I dont think it was a MAF (Mass Air Flow) until the 3rd gen, 1996 onwards. I think it was just called an AFM (Air Flow Meter)

ive been reading that i can use the afm from an 82 supra. does any one know about that? what im looking for is if i can use one of those hotwire sensors, the round ones, and maybe add an adapter or cut some wires and stuff.please help.

Any additional air flow would def. help these poor underpowered beasts.

LC Engineering sells a early model Tacoma MAF replacement for the 22RE. It is sold as a kit and requires(?) a stand alone fuel management system. I have heard of some of the turbo guys switching out the AFM in their trucks for a turbo supra AFM.
