Does anyone actually use DAC?

When it’s muddy, loose terrain and steep I think it’s the best piece of technology I’ve got on my 4r for off-roading in those circumstances

For me it is set up to fast on loose, rocky stuff.

Also, when I first got my 4runner, it was horrible and did not work at all. My gas tank gauge was off as well I would later find out. I reset the leveling sensors on the car in an attempt to repair my gas gauge, and the DAC function improved as well.

However, it is still too fast for
my taste and not even close to my 2007 FJ with manual transmission in 4lo and 1st gear.

I've used it a few times... mostly just for fun to learn how it work, but there have been a couple times with a very steep decent where I feel like it did an excellent job.

In Glamis sand dunes it was much easier to keep the truck controlled and pointed in the right direction.

Without it, sometimes you get going... and it's really hard to stop. Almost rolled over once without it because the rear was sliding out and steering input wasn't doing shit while hard on the brakes. I basically had to just let of of the brake and just deal with the speed and suspension bottoming out till I got down.

Immediately drove back to camp and changed my undies.

Unplugged my switch and put it in a drawer as soon as I got my rig home from the dealer. Wound up putting a usb pack in it's place. I've always been comfortable with 4l in 1st, as long as tires have some grip...all the tech in the world don't mean jack if you don't have decent tires. Just my $.02

I use it more often than I care to admit............. which is every fricken time my GPS cord gets caught between the fold out armrest tray and the DAC button.

Otherwise not used.

I am *SO* happy this isn't just me.

Also, I have found that 10 times out of 10 when travelling with a Tactical Off-Road Feline Support Spotter (patent pending) that paws will inevitably find and activate the DAC button.

I wonder if anyone has ever relocated this button to the switch cluster to the left of the steering column? :fishing:

I have my vsc light issue so vsc is off and sliding in snow a little bit even being in 4 wheel drive so I used dac for the first time to maybe help stop from small slides as snow came down thick and hard and it worked beautifully!

Ah - ha.... i was waiting for someone to admit this. It happened to me in the ice storms we had a few years ago.

We had a steep hill iced over in the hood and no one would go up or down it... so i said. f-it and put it in 4-low, turned on the DAC and viola ended up in the neighbors yard spinning out of control. Scared me to death. Had zero control of the vehicle.

SO... i drove up the icy hill in 4 low and turned around and went down in 4-Hi and put the shifter in Drive and just rolled down the hill.. no problems...

(DAC probably not intended for ice, but i wanted to try it)
You found out the hard way that rubber tires and glaze ice don't mix.

All those drivers stuck in gridlocked roads around DC are finding that out right now !

I use it occasionally I think it has its place for certain scenarios. I like that it disengages automatically once you tap the brake or the gas then re-engages once you let off. I also think that 4Lo L without the DAC has it’s benefits. It’s not a cure all mode for all downhills that’s for sure but in the right application it’s super handy. It sure beats boiling your brake fluid from riding your brakes and losing brake pressure…

I don’t know why I feel the need to bump this theead but I thought I’d add that I love DAC. It’s loud and annoying but man it is perfect for descending loose or rocky or rutty shit where you don’t want to brake. I hate brakes anywhere, not just off-road. Like driving a fast car on a windy road, I’d rather rely on engine (and in this case gearing and ABS pulses) braking than my actual brake pedal any day. I’ve had some real fun with it engaged.

Thanks for bumping. I learned from this thread
  1. Engage DAC before you need it
  2. Don't use on ice

This will be useful, once the market cools down and I pull the trigger on a 4WD 4Runner.

I've tried to use DAC several times. The problem I have with it is that it is often too fast for rough terrain and too slow for everything else. There isn't much of a sweet spot to work with. I'd rather gear down for speed control in most cases.
