Does anyone know the legal tint % for So. Calif?

I am thinking of tinting my front windows before the summer and figured I could get a better deal during the winter months. Does anyone here know what the legal tint % here in So. California is? I was thinking like 15% or something. Unfortunately, we are not like Utah or Nevada which allow you to go dark tint on front side windows.

In California, any tint on the front windows is illegal. I know many people who have tint on the front windows and never get pulled over, but it is illegal, so do it at your own risk.

I've heard this many times, but I found this table of allowed tints by state which states that 70% tint is allowed on front sides (lower % numbers is darker).

I found the CVC link too, but didn't link to it because I couldn't make sense of it! Additionally, I think some SoCal cities have enacted their own tint laws.

I am going to tint the BMW using a Huper-Optik film that supposedly offers heat rejection, but is not very dark at all. I haven't gone to the shop to see this film in person yet, but will soon.

Yup, it's very confusing. I remember it being that you couldn't have tint in front unless you had a doctor's note about sun exposure or something. My sister got pulled over in 2002 for having tint on her front windows, that's why I said it was illegal. But we've never been pulled over for the tint on our Corolla. So, I don't know anymore...

Thanks for all of your responses and links! It appears that I should wait on tinting my front side windows. 70% light emittance isn't much more than the ultraviolet protection Toyota already gives us on the 4 runner. I'll probably just get the sunroof darker tinted and be done with it unless I decide to move out of the state of Califunky!
