Does different traction rating of new tires affect ABS system?

I just took off the 265/65 17 Dunlop

Is the light blinking or on all the time? Blinking usually means there is a failure in the system. Constant on means tire pressure on one of the 5 tires is low.

I don't believe you need to do any recalibrating. The ABS system uses the speed sensors to apply the brakes properly so changing the tires shouldn't affect its operation.

The dealer checked out the pressure sensors and claims that one of my sensors was broken during the tire install, which causes it to misread the actual tire pressure. The sensor shows a faulty reading of 9psi when the actual tire pressure is 35psi. They want $187.00 for the part and 138.00 labor for a grand total of about $341.00. This has become a very expensive tire upgrade.

i say you take that bill to the installer and have them pay for it. it was their fault so they should pay.

Get a written statement from the dealer stating that the ABS sensor is damaged due to the tire installation.

Have the quote (part and install price) on hand and have them pay for the repair fee. Usually having the dealer bill the shop directly would be the best as you're not stuck in the middle.

Document and talk to the manager on both ends.

I took a written quote from the dealer to the tire installer and without question they handed over the cash to have the tire pressure sensor fixed. Lesson learned to be very careful when choosing a tire installer.
