does my locker not work?

i just toyed with this for the first time in some snow. i was in drive and hit the button, the dash flashed locker or whatever it said but it never stopped flashing and didnt seem to do anything. is there a certain way to activate this thing or what

You have to be in 4LO and be going under 5 mph (I believe it's 5) to engage it. To bypass this so you can use your locker in 2 and 4HI and engage it at any speed, search the "grey wire mod". It's the same thing on the 4runners as the taco except instead of a grey wire, it's a blue wire with a red stripe or something like that.

IMO, you should not engage the locker or switch into 4LO unless you are at a stop. If the mesh gears need a little help to line up, you can then creep forward until the locker engages.
