Does Octane Boosters work?

I have always been skeptical about the formulas sold in gas stations and Auto Zone and stuff like Gas Treatment, Injector Cleaners and stuff. And i would like to believe that they work. I just found something called Octane Booster "Barely Legal" and put it in my gas tank. Now, it was suppose to boost power and make my gas burn effectively. I did feel a little difference in accelerating from zero, but i dunno, what u guys think? Does anyone has any experience with these things?

There used to be something that was made by Bardahl during the 1980s that worked pretty well. I had a 1964 Cadillac that called for "96 Octane" leaded gasoline -- impossible to find. I believe the product was known as "Instead of Lead" or something like that.

With every other tank of fuel, I poured in a bottle of the stuff and it did a lot to stop the knocking/pinging caused by pump gasoline - as well as helping to alleviate the possible valve damage caused by low-lead and unleaded gasoline.

When I was at an auto parts store recently, I noticed a product called "110 Octane Boost" for about four bucks a bottle. The label claims that it makes unleaded regular pump gasoline perform like racing fuel. Um.....yeah.


I would suggest trying one or two different brands & types - with a decent amount of time between using each one - and noting the results. What might work for one car might not be ideal for another. A large-displacement engine that runs at 3,000 to 4,000 revs will have different needs than a small 'ricer' that has to be run up to its redline all the time. Also, some types of additives work better with fuel-injected engines while others might be better with old-school carburetors (you kids will never have seen one).

Of course, you don't want to end up with a formula that could be harmful to your engine or cause your emissions controls to malfunction. This ain't the 1970s anymore!

Any additive sold in stores is totaly useless and aimed for one thing only: to get money out of your pocket. Believe me, there are all you need additives in the gasoline already, unless you using fuel from Uncle Earls Refinery... Besides, your 4.0 engine does not benefit from octane that's above 91.
