Does the 03-05 4Runner have a glove box light?

Mine is all dark and I cant see any lights, does mine have a lighted glove box?

Mines a '07 Limited too and dark as a hole. Hard to believe a vehicle of this price doesn't have a glove box light. Same for console, no light there either. Ther's a overabundance of lights everywhere you don't need them but where you do there are none.

Mine has glove box light. It fits Sylvania 2721 same as the shifter light. The light is helpful, as my first aid medicines are in the glovebox.

Ok, you can access those bulbs in the hole before the secret compartment. Just feel it with your finger and unsnap the lock.

Well mine has not worked ever since I bought my 4runner new and yours doe not appear to work either. Gonna ask the dealer about this one. Maybe there's a hidden one in the concel too I have not found.

Since I bought my 4runner used, and its a 2003, that light was not working also. I replaced it last 2007 when I knew that there is a bulb there. I use Sylvania 2721.

The ACC should be turned ON, and when you open the glove box it should auto illuminate and off when closed.

I just checked mine, 2003 Limited. Light does not go on with the ACC, the lights have to be on. Nothing in the glove box.

I too went and checked mine. It does comer on with the headlights. Guess I aways go to the glove box while parked to look for something. Headlights off of course. Leave it to the Japanease to make it that way. Our way is much better using a switch that makes the light come on when needed instead of all the time when the headlights are on whether the glove box is opened or not. Now if only they had put one in the console.

I just looked in my 05 Limited and the bulb is there...but it no worky. Glad I saw this and checked...but how do you get the black grid thing out of the way. I was able to undo the clip on one side. But it's just stuck there now. Do I have to remove the black panels around it as well?

Wow I never new it was such a widespread thing- I guess all our bulbs are burning out?? I am going to check and report back when I get a chance.

They burn out because every time you drive with your headlights on it's on in the glove box. In such a small space I bet it gets plenty hot with the bulb on all the time. Guess that's what happens when you try to save the cost of a .30 switch for the price of a light bulb. Switch costs Toyota, light bulb cost the consumer over time.

The light in the glove box is on when the headlights are on even if the glove box is closed?
Doesn't sound right.
Never bothered to look. I'll have to check it out.

Well at least for 2006+ the glove box light is switched. Not sure about the other years. I am going to add two 5mm amber leds to the lower box area (tapped off the factory light) as I leave the top compartment open with the manuals and paperwork in there and it blocks the light to the lower compartment. I'll switch the factory light over to led at that time as well, #74 i believe.

Looking at the FSM's I dont think I will be able to switch the two add on leds but since they are leds the draw will be very very low and they will only be on when the parking or head lamps are on.

Yes, you are correct..
The key atleast in ACC, and the lights(interior) have to be ON.

I think I'm also wrong about the auto on/off when opening the glove box. Coz when I touched it after driving, still hot. That light is "ON" all the time when the interiors/accessory/headlights are ON???anyway I replaced it last June 2007 and its still alive.

I just ordered a 3 SMT-LED replacement (#74) for it, I will post a pic after I get it installed and see if it is always one with ACC

I guess that's one of the ways Toyota has kept the 4th gens prices on par with the 3rd gens by not having a glovebox switch since I know the light in my 3rd gen goes off when the glovebox is closed.

Just to follow up I installed a new 3SMT size 74 LED bulb in the glove box. The light does not turn on when the glove box is open it only comes on when the headlights are on and it stays on regardless of the glove box being open or closed when the headlights are on.

I guess the best possible solution for this is to go with a bright LED bulb for they have a considerably longer life than incandescent bulbs. :bash: couldnt just add a switch! I hate these corner cutting moves.

That is a crazy design. Cheap or what. When does one look at the glove compartment while lights are turned on. Normally the car is parked

Just found it!

I know I'm about 4 years late to the thread, but I got an 04 4Runner late last year and I just now found this thread. Sure enough, the bulb was burned out! I bought a VLEDS replacement bulb for $2 and it works great. The design is pretty dumb with the bulb being on with the headlights, though. Why not when the glovebox opens?! At least I have a working bulb now...
