Does your factory stereo do this noise?

Try this on the factory radio: Press the AUX button without any device connected to the AUX input. Turn the volume to MAX while the vehicle is rolling. Do you hear a clicking noise that corresponds exactly to the vehicle speed? And stops when the vehicle stops.

I do.

This is a 2007 V6. Just wondering if this is a speed sensor that is faulty and interfereing with some electrical functions.

I hope it's normal.. I hear it on my 2006 Sport too. I really don't notice it since I usually have something plugged into the Aux input playing music or I have it set to the radio. If I am not listening to the stereo, I make it a habit to just turn the stereo off. The radio does make a pretty awful buzzing sound if I have my phone/mp3 player plugged into the Aux input and 12v power at the same time.

The first time I noticed it, I thought something was wrong with the drivetrain. My first instinct was to turn off the radio not realizing it was sitting in Aux mode and wasn't playing any music. I was relieved that it went away after realizing the stereo was the source of the mysterious sound.

I'm not sure if there's anything we can do to completely remove the noise short of shielding all of the wiring and radio components, and isolating the power source. There's a bunch of stuff in the vehicle that puts out electronic/radio interference. The alternator is the worse.

I did a quick Google search to see if there was info related to this topic.. I may bring this up at the dealership on my next visit and share my findings.

I get it every once in a while as well on my 07 SR5 V6. I was able to find the document Raptor was talking about elsewhere on a RAV4 forum.

I USED to get this until i had them do the TSB for the AUX input. Basically, what's going on is there is a missing filter between the input and the stereo and without it, you get interference. I noticed more of a buzzing sound when I had something plugged into the outlet but also had the buzz you're talking about too.

Check the sticky for the TSB number. All i did was bring it in, turn on aux and they heard it so they did it free! Had it done while they were doing regular maintenance so it wasn't a hassle.
