If I understand correctly, there were zero changes to the cargo area with the 2016 models. But if you're unsure why not just call Canvasback to ask?I'm STILL waiting on Canvasback.com to carry the canvasback for the 2016 4Runner's.... Part of me feels like the 2010-2015 model will work but I don't wanna spend $150 just to find out it doesn't fit.
Previous dogs were always crated for long trips or on the back seat or pickup bed for short trips (don't start... I know better now). My late 110-lb German Shepherd was well trained and just stayed in the back of the 4Runner. I'd roll down the back window (best feature ever!) so she could sniff if she wanted without getting blasted by the air flow and debris from side windows. My wife's spoiled Husky has zero training and must be restrained or enclosed at all times. She wears a harness that is buckled through a seat belt.I can't wait to use the back window for my lab and jack russel, do you leash them up at all?
For what it's worth, a few states have laws requiring you to restrain a dog while driving. This isn't for the safety of the dog, although that is a side effect; it's to keep the dog from causing problems by distracting the driver or even jumping out of the vehicle into traffic.
